Chris Fox

Chris grew up during the Disney renaissance of animation and took his first trip to Disney World when he was ten. Even though he has loved Disney his whole life, his obsession didn't start until he began planning a trip for his honeymoon. Right now, his primary job (at least the one that doesn't pay the bills) is to indoctrinate his daughter with his love of Disney while at the same time convincing his wife to move to Orlando so he can become a tour guide in the parks. He can also be found indulging in his nerdy side (both Disney related and otherwise) at nerdintherealworld.wordpress.com.

Marvel News Roundup – Life After The Winter Soldier

payoff_shareable_960x720

There’s a lot of fun things going on in the world of Marvel, so let’s get to it.

Captain America opened up last week as number one in the box office (no surprise there). Opening with $92.6 million, the Winter Soldier now holds the record for the largest movie opening in April ever.

I don’t normally talk about rumors but this one is fun. At the St. Louis Comic-con, Nathan Fillion was asked if he would accept a role in Guardians of the Galaxy if he was asked. Besides being the epitome of a Joss Whedon alum, Fillion has also worked with Guardians’ director James Gunn on Castle. Here’s his response.

There was also a new clip from Guardians of the Galaxy on MTV.

The weekend of May 6, 2016 will be an interesting weekend at the box office. Marvel announced that Captain America 3 will open that weekend which is the same weekend as their Distinguished Competition’s Superman/Batman movie.Read More »Marvel News Roundup – Life After The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review (with Spoilers)

captain-america-now-playing

This movie has cemented Captain America as my favorite Avenger. In a time when superheroes seem to be becoming more edgy and morally ambiguous, it is refreshing to see Cap fight for what’s right simply because it’s right.

The movie starts with Cap becoming more and more frustrated by the secrets that S.H.I.E.L.D. is keeping and when Fury reveals those secrets, Cap begins questioning what his role in S.H.I.E.L.D. should be.

The story is fast paced and, aside from the overuse of the shaky camera that has become prevalent in action movies, the action keeps you on the edge of your seat as do all of the twists that the movie takes. I’m glad that the identity of the Winter Soldier wasn’t the only twist to the movie (I’m very disappointed in Sitwell).

A couple of interesting Easter eggs that were hidden in the movie are the names Steven Strange and Sharon Carter. Strange, of course, is Dr. Strange and he’s movie has been in development for some time. Marvel president, Kevin Feige, responded to that name drop by saying, basically, that they know what the implications are but we don’t yet. And Sharon Carter, in the comics, is Peggy Carter’s niece, Agent 13 and Cap’s love interest.Read More »Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review (with Spoilers)

Review: Marvel’s Captain America: Winter Soldier Prelude Comic

mcu-marvel-2

I wrote a post on my blog about the MCU tie-in comics which essentially said, “They’re good, but they could be so much better,” so when I went to the store today to pick up a copy of the Captain America: Winter Soldier Prelude I wasn’t expecting much.

I knew that it would include a graphic novelization of the first Captain America movie and the official prelude to the new one, but it also included classic comic stories that introduced characters like Hawkeye, the Falcon, the Winter Solider, and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.

My biggest complaint about this collection is that, of the seven collected issues only three of them are related to the MCU. Despite being a prelude to the new movie this weekend, more than half of this graphic novel has nothing to do with it.Read More »Review: Marvel’s Captain America: Winter Soldier Prelude Comic

30 Years Into The Future In A Galaxy Far, Far Away

While my wife jumps for joy at the announcement of pre-production work commencing on Pixar’s “The Incredibles 2”, I’m excited to see a teaser synopsis for “Star Wars Episode VII” (though I’m excited for another trip to Metroville as well). After confirming that the new… Read More »30 Years Into The Future In A Galaxy Far, Far Away
