He’s especially excited about the Star-Lord Quad Blaster by Hasbro (SRP $19.99, available July 2014), which fires four included NERF darts.

“Disney Consumer Products is firing on all cylinders across our diverse franchise portfolio, and at this year’s Toy Fair we’re building off a successful 2013 to showcase the best of our new and storied properties that will heat up toy aisles in 2014,” said Josh Silverman, executive vice president, global licensing at Disney Consumer Products. “We’re excited to see these four properties take off at retail as we know these innovative products will resonate with kids and fans who want to create their own heroic stories.”

Disney Characters Form A Voltron – Nerdvana

Tmaashii Nations have posted a teaser image for an upcoming release of “Chogokin King Robo Mickey & Friends.” Apparently that’s some sort of robot made by combining transforming smaller Disney character robots. Reminds me of that Voltron robot I had as a kid and is… Read More »Disney Characters Form A Voltron – Nerdvana

D23 Expo Recap: Day 1

  • by

Friday, August 19 was opening day of the D23 Expo (I’m working under the assumption that you are familiar with D23) and it kicked off with a bang. Or a mouse, as the case may be. It always starts with a mouse.

D23 crowdsWhile the expo was open to the general ticket-buying public, it did offer a number of perks specifically to official D23 members, such as discounted passes, special “members only” events and early admission. It pays to belong, people!

Friday’s itinerary started at 9:00 a.m. with two of the aforementioned members only events, namely the Disney Store Opening Ceremony and the Radio Disney Road Crew Dance Party.

Other events that morning included an art contest with Disney.com, vintage footage showcasing the history of the Disneyland Hotel (congrats, DH, on the new ranking!), meet and greets with artists Jim Salvati and Robert Olszewski of the Disney Store and Disney Dream, respectively, and characters from Disney Channel’s Jake and the Never Land Pirates.

Then it was time for the 2011 Disney Legends Ceremony, which was, as you might imagine, magical. However, not everyone was able to attend the ceremony, so they had to settle for other really cool things like The Wonderful Words of Disney… Behind the Page: Kingdom Keepers presentation with Ridley Pearson. I would have loved to have attended this event to discuss some of my issues with the continuity, or lack thereof, within the series, but alas, Mr. Pearson was spared my fanboy criticism, and is probably the better for it.Read More »D23 Expo Recap: Day 1

Yokai at EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion

One of the great things about the Japan pavilion is the little exhibit space where Americans are exposed to some of Japan’s cultural artifacts. For a long time there was an excellent Tin Toy exhibit with a fun video from John Lasseter. Sadly toward the… Read More »Yokai at EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion

Pixar Characters redrawn as Star Wars

I found these drawings of Pixar characters as Star Wars characters to be particularly fun. Disney does create new Star Wars themed Disney toys every year for Star Wars Weekends, so perhaps they’ll find some way to partner with this artist for his ideas.
