RIP Dan Wheldon, Indianapolis 500 Champion

Besides Disney my other real fandom is that of racing, particularly open wheel racing. So as I posted early this year, I was very pleased when this year’s Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon was feted at Walt Disney World with a victory parade.

It was with tremendous sadness that I learned today of Wheldon’s death in an accident at the Las Vegas race. Wheldon celebrated his 33rd birthday with his family when he visited Walt Disney World in June. Here’s a video from that day that so clearly shows his love of his family, of life, and of racing.

The 2005 IndyCar series champion, Wheldon was a class act all they way. There’s really nothing more to say than too soon, too soon. Our thoughts are with the Wheldon family and all the drivers and members of the IndyCar racing team and league.

Update: Today’s race was called after officials learned of Wheldon’s death. Instead the remaining teams and drivers held five parade laps in tribute to Wheldon. The video of this moving ceremony is below the jump:

Dancing with the Stars Week 4: Dancing to the Movies!

Hi there everyone and welcome to this week’s Dancing with the Stars blog. I guess my writing from my first blog was adequate enough, I was asked to write another one!

This week’s theme: Dancing to the Movies!

Everyone in Dancing Nation is still reeling from last week’s decision that sent Kristin Cavallari home early from the dance floor (despite having the judges give her a collective score of 24).

In her interview this week, Chynna Phillips admitted “it was such a shock” that Kristin went home last week. Chynna was stressed out this week and knew she needed to step it up. Dance partner Tony said Chynna really needs to listen to him for them to do well.

Chynna and Tony danced the Tango to the theme from Mission Impossible with Tony dropping from the ceiling aka Tom Cruise at the beginning of the song. But unfortunately their mission of successful dancing turned impossible when Chynna got lost on some steps early. And all the judges noticed it!

Revenge 1.3: Betrayal… Round & Round We Go

…contains spoilers.

Another Wednesday, another life for Emily to destroy… who will it be this time?

Enter Senator Kingsley. Now a major player amongst the conservatives, Kingsley was the winning prosecutor in the case against Emily’s father, David. The senator and his family are friends of the Grayson’s (of course) and, much to Victoria’s chagrin, are invited to stay at their home as the senator preps for the launch of his reelection campaign.

We soon learn a few juicy tidbits. Back in the day, before the judge made a ruling, Victoria confronted Kingsley about David’s innocence – an admission that was caught by her husband. (His name is Conrad by the way.) “Don’t listen to her! She’s in love with him,” Conrad interrupts, and immediately threatens the end of Kingsley’s political future and his support if Kingsley listens to Victoria. Of course, we all know how that ends.

Pan Am takes off in episode two

ABC’s new series Pan Am took off to a weird start last Sunday night. However, the second episode, “We’ll Always Have Paris” was much more interesting. The less-than-stellar airplane CGI was gone and the theme music was much less intrusive. Even better, the storyline was… Read More »Pan Am takes off in episode two
