Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Roller Coaster Construction Update from Disney World

00-minetrain-sdmt-newfantasyland-1

The last attraction to open in the Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland expansion is the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It’s a completely new kind of roller coaster with cars that swing back and forth. This allows for tighter corners and a slight increase in the thrill, while still keeping it kid friendly.

If it seems like the project has been taking forever, you’re partly right. Vertical construction of the coaster only began in March of 2012. It is currently expected to open sometime in early summer of 2014, which puts it at a little over two years from dirt to ride opening. Don’t make any plans based on that rumor as it may be pushed back. That’s about the speed for a major new attraction at Disney these days.

Those who have been paying close attention to the blog know I had an emergency surgery to correct a heart defect, so I’ve been limited in what I can do in the parks, but I was able to get out and get some new video and photos from the scene earlier this week.

There is significant progress from my November 6th update. The mountain is starting to look like a mountain, with actual real trees and some artificial ones dotting the show building. Queue and show elements are beginning to be installed and actual testing of cars on the track is occurring. Not on the day I was there unfortunately, but I did capture some video of the mountain to share with you:

Thor The Dark World 3D Combo Box Art

Disney has started doing this thing where they release the digital download versions of a movie, a few weeks before the physical DVD comes out. That’s the case with Marvel’s THOR: The Dark World, which is available now in 3D and HD Digital! The 3D Combo Pack (3D Blu-ray™, 2D Blu-ray, Digital Copy), Single-Disc Blu-ray, DVD are still available for pre-order for a February 25th, 2014 date.

To get everyone excited, Disney and Marvel have put together some new clips and a trailer. I like this one full of bloopers and featuring Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth and Jaimie Alexander:

Marvel Releases New Posters to Hail the Coming of Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is due in theaters on April 4, 2014, and Marvel has released some new posters to promote the film.

The main poster features Chris Evans as Captain America flanked by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. In the background are Sebastian Stan as Bucky “The Winter Soldier” Barnes and Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce.

Sadly, no love for Anthony Mackie’s The Falcon on this poster.

There are also three new character posters in the same vein as the main poster, courtesy of Marvel. Check them out below the jump:Read More »Marvel Releases New Posters to Hail the Coming of Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel Releases New Captain America: The Winter Soldier Trailer During Super Bowl

captain-america-marvel-poster

The release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier is two months away, on April 4, so Marvel decided to up the anticipation with a new incredible trailer during the Super Bowl.

The trailer packs a lot into its 2:30 minute length: more extensive looks at Falcon and The Winter Soldier himself; some high-energy action sequences; and clips that show the Marvel sense of humor to balance it out. The special effects also look amazing.

If you didn’t catch it already, here it is for your viewing pleasure:

I don’t know about you, but this clip definitely makes me want to see the movie more than I already did.

Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland Filming at Disneyland This Week

tomorrowland-case

Ever wonder why there hasn’t been a sequel to Pixar’s The Incredibles yet? That’s because Director Brad Bird has been having too much fun making live action films. His current project sounds like it will entertain Disney fans and loves of a good thriller at the same time. The plot of Tomorrowland is said to be a mystery wrapped in an enigma (which you can say about nearly anything LOST writer Damon Lindelof is involved with), but it definitely is set in mid-60s Disneyland for at least some of the film.

Here’s the plot synopsis:

Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as “Tomorrowland.”

See enigma!

The production has, in fact, been filming at Disneyland this week. Today they’re at “it’s a small world”, conveniently already painted its original color scheme. LaughingPlace.com has a reporter on the scene and has been posting some pictures on Twitter.
