‘The Muppets Mayhem’ Cancelled by Disney+ After One Season

The amps have been turned off as “The Muppets Mayhem” has been canceled after just one season at Disney+.

The Details

The series was originally ordered at Disney+ in early 2022 and debuted on the streamer in May 2023.

It centered on “The Electric Mayhem Band,” featuring Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet

Season one followed the Muppet band on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album.

The Muppet performers for the show included Matt Vogel as Floyd, Bill Barretta as Dr. Teeth, Peter Linz as Lips, Dave Goelz as Zoot, David Rudman as Janice, and Eric Jacobson as Animal.

The human cast of the series included Lily Singh, Tahj Mowry, Saara Chaudry, and Anders Holm, and the series had a star-studded guest cast that included everyone from Paula Abdul to “Weird Al” Yankovic.

It’s worth noting the show received six nominations for this year’s Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, including Best Children’s or Family Viewing Series.

Previous attempts to have Muppets on Disney+ included the one-off Halloween special “Muppets Haunted Mansion,” released in October 2021, and the short-lived short-form series “Muppets Now,” which was released in July 2020.

The Muppets Mayhem

Show writer Adam F. Goldberg has responded on X/Twitter to the show’s cancellation:

“Huge thanks to the critic & fan love that got us 6 Emmy noms and a #1 Billboard album. Mayhem was truly the most joyful and collaborative experience of my career. From day one all I’ve cared about is creating a Muppet-verse and YES I am already cooking up more Muppets with@billbarretta &@JeffYorkes! IT’S HAPPENING!!!”

To which the Official Twitter page of The Muppets at The Jim Henson Company replied:

“Fingers crossed Disney green lights what you got cooking up next for the @TheMuppets! @billbarretta and all of you deserved better.”
