Disney’s Bob Iger Confirms Timetable for Star Wars VIII and IX

swtfa-title

In Disney’s recent annual report, Chairman/CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released in 2017, and Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters in 2019.

Disney shareholders received the report last month, in which Iger states:

“As one of the few people allowed to visit the set during filming… and one of the fewer who’s seen most of the footage… I can assure the millions of Star Wars fans who have spent the last decade hoping for a new movie this one will be worth the wait. And it’s only the beginning of a new era of exceptional Star Wars storytelling; next year we’ll release our first standalone movie based on these characters, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017, and we’ll finish this trilogy with Episode IX in 2019.”

This tightens the normal release window between chapters in a Star Wars trilogy from three years down to two.

Disney will release the J.J. Abrams-helmed Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens on December 18 of this year. There are also two spin-off/standalone movies that have also been previously announced.Read More »Disney’s Bob Iger Confirms Timetable for Star Wars VIII and IX

Disney’s 1991 Super Bowl Half-Time Spectacular featuring New Kids On The Block

1991-superbowl-disney-halftime

Prior to last night’s NFL Super Bowl XLIX, we showed the 2000 halftime show, which was the last time Disney was asked to put on the halftime performance. But they had done the production five times prior.

Fun bit of trivia: The first ever Super Bowl halftime show in 1967 was produced by Tommy Walker, who was the Entertainment Director for Disneyland.

Although one Richard Sherman played for the Seahawks last night, the first time a Richard Sherman was in the super bowl was in 1977 during the first Disney produced “it’s a small world” themed half-time show. We don’t have video of that show, but we do have the 1991 show which featured It’s A Small World, New Kids on the Block, and giant Disney inflatables. What’s not to like?

Imagine if they’d trotted out that show last night instead of Katy Perry? What do you think the world would make of that?Read More »Disney’s 1991 Super Bowl Half-Time Spectacular featuring New Kids On The Block
