Cinderella-gown

If you’re any sort of Disney fan, then you’re familiar with the story of Cinderella — the poor child whose mother dies and is left in the care of a wicked stepmother who favors her own two daughters over Ella. The original animated Disney classic is very nearly perfection, so why then would Disney want to remake it for modern audiences? I think the answer lays in the question.

The technical abilities of movies has progressed so far in just the last few years, that Disney really can pull off a live action version of the movie. They can even give away so much in the trailer, because they know that audiences already love the story, the movie will allow new audiences to experience the story in a deeper more nuanced way.

CINDERELLA

When you look at these photos that were provided by Disney Studios to promote the film, you can see how richly detailed the world created for this movie is. From amazing costumes to set decorations that are over the top. There’s lots of scenery to be chewed as well. And yes, there are friendly mice and a fairy godmother as well.

Annie Leibovitz Photo Graces Cinderella Poster

You saw the poster earlier with the first trailer for Disney’s live action remake of Cinderella, but did you detect something special. Okay, Lily James as Cinderella is pretty special by herself, but the artistic eye of photographer Annie Leibobitz actually took the photo, as well as a number of other photos, to help promote the film. Many of those photos are available on newstands now inside Vogue magazine’s December issue.

If that poster looks familiar, it probably reminds you of the very first photo in Annie Leibovitz’s Disney Dream Portrait Series with Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella taken way back in 2007.

I guess it’s okay if great artists steal from themselves, right?

First trailer for “Tomorrowland” film impresses

“Imagine a place where nothing is impossible.”

What a great tagline for the new movie “Tomorrowland.” Loosely inspired by Walt Disney’s constant search for a future world where anything is possible, the new movie from Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof takes audiences on a wild thrill ride of non-stop adventure through new dimensions that have only been dreamed of.

This is the kind of movie that would have really inspired the young me. I can’t wait to bring my son to it.

Tomorrowland-Scity

“Tomorrowland” is a riveting mystery adventure starring Academy Award winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

The film also stars Hugh Laurie as brilliant scientist David Nix, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson.Read More »First trailer for “Tomorrowland” film impresses
