The Walt Disney Company Wins 37 Awards at 75th Primetime Emmys

The Walt Disney Company Wins 37 Awards at 75th Primetime Emmys
.

Last night, the 75th Primetime Emmys aired, giving out the remaining awards that weren’t given out during the Creative Emmys in a separate ceremony earlier this month, and combined, The Walt Disney Company walked away with 37 Emmy wins out of its 163 nominations.

FX’s “The Bear” continued its winning streak, nabbing ten out its thirteen nominations, including nearly sweeping the main comedy categories with Outstanding Series, Outstanding Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actress, Outstanding Supporting Actor, and Outstanding Casting.

Also winning big were FX’s “Welcome to Wrexham” with five wins, Disney+/ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” with three wins, and Disney+/Disney Branded Television’s “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” whose three Emmy wins helped the music icon and Disney Legend (since 2006) into EGOT status. He became only the 19th person to receive an Emmy, Grammy®, Oscar®, and Tony® award.

Other multiple award winners were ABC’s “Beauty and The Beast: A 30th Celebration,” and 20th Television Animation’s “The Simpsons,” winning two Emmys each.

During the evening, many classic series casts were reunited on stage, including ABC’s long-running “Grey’s Anatomy,” which featured appearances by past and present cast members Justin Chambers, Katherine Heigl, Ellen Pompeo, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson.

Dynasty’s Dame Joan Collins (looking at 90 like time stopped 20 years earlier) made a special appearance to help hand out an award.

There was also an appearance by actress Christina Applegate, star of several series, including ABC’s “Samantha Who?,” who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021. She received a standing ovation from the audience as she presented the first award. It went to “The Bear” actress Ayo Edebiri.

This month’s ceremonies were actually supposed to take place in September 2023, but were postponed due to the writer’s and SAG-AFTRA strikes. That means 2024 will see another Primetime Emmy ceremony this fall, celebrating the shows that aired June 1, 2023 – May 31, 2024.
