EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival Unveils Expanded Food and Drink Options

EPCOT Food and Wine festival fans, you might want to pack your bags early this year and come down during the Flower and Garden festival. Some of the fall magic is being added to the spring festival and beautiful things are happening.

This year, new Garden Marketplaces are making their food and beverage debut at the 20th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival which runs from March 6-May 19, 2013. The annual festival will highlight the natural progression from garden to table at the 12 Garden Marketplaces around World Showcase.

Frankly, this move is long overdue. It makes no sense for Disney to restrict the goodness we all love about the Food and Wine festival to just those six weeks of the year. Yes, the festivals are meant to draw guests to the parks in what is usually a down time in terms of tourism visits. But to be honest, there really isn’t an off-season at Walt Disney World anymore. EPCOT could take advantage of this shift by becoming known world wide as a mecca for amazing food and drink and the chefs and artists who bring them to the public. There are a few obstacles in the way (Disney Dining Plan for one), but many of the facilities required to make this happen already exist.

“That progression is showcased with raised garden beds around the marketplaces that will be growing some of the produce and herbs in the dishes,” says Epcot Executive Chef Jens Dahlmann. “We want to show our guests how food grows to help make that connection from the kitchen to the garden.”

“Each marketplace has three to four dishes, and they are unique to the festival,” says Dahlmann. Culinary creations from Epcot chefs range from smokehouse barbecue to sweet “frushi” made with fresh fruits and coconut rice, and are paired perfectly with refreshing brews and beverages at each location.

Of course, some have started calling this Booze and Blooms. But it’s in good spirit, I think. I mean how can it not be after looking at this amazing menu of food and drinks Disney is preparing:

Picking the Right Resort for your Disney World Vacation

If deciding where to stay on Disney property were as simple as sticking to your budget, you’d book a value room and be done with it. After all, they’re clean, comfortable, and give you all the benefits of staying on Disney property while still being kind to your wallet. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. Staying at a Disney resort is half the fun of visiting Walt Disney World, with each resort offering a unique feeling and experiences that make choosing downright difficult. Need a little help in deciding where to stay next time? Then try the following suggestions:

1. Set a budget within your comfort zone. Sure, you can probably swing $3500 for a week at the Grand Floridian, but how does that make you feel? If it makes you feel uncomfortable, it’s not the right resort for you even if you can afford it. The nice thing about staying within your budget is that it allows you to potentially say yes to a lot of other things, whether its tickets to a holiday party, a toy your child wants, or a big dinner at a signature restaurant. Disney World Security Guard Charged with Possessing Child Porn

Normally, I don’t write about various criminal issues that happen from time to time among Walt Disney World’s personnel. There are over 60,000 cast members and it would be impossible to pre-screen out all the bad eggs. But for certain positions, I believe Disney should… Read More »Disney World Security Guard Charged with Possessing Child Porn

DJ Steve Porter Composes Walt Disney World Video

Digital artist, producer, and DJ Steve Porter was commissioned by Walt Disney World to produce one of his mash-up videos for the resort. I’m not a fan of auto-tune myself, but I do appreciate that something like this takes a lot of effort to pull… Read More »DJ Steve Porter Composes Walt Disney World Video

Limited Time Magic – Week 3 Returns Long Lost Friends

Over at Disneyland there are two on-going Limited Time Magic events. The Salute to the Golden Horseshoe Revue continues as does Bayou Bash. I’ve been reading reviews of the Horseshoe tribute and they’re almost uniformly positive with great things to say about the performers. If anything guests want to see more, which I think is a good sign for bringing back a show like Golden Horseshoe Revue… even if it’s a twice a night show with a prix fix menu like they did for the AP dinners.

You can tell the revival is a thing of love. It also includes some direct ties to the original show:

On the east coast we’re getting our third unique limited time magic opportunity. This time it’s one of the per-announced events. For one week, January 21–27, guests will want to keep their cameras ready for the chance to meet rarely seen classic characters like Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar, Robin Hood and Friar Tuck. Also on tap for appearances are the Three Little Pigs.

If you’re in the parks watch #LimitedTimeMagic on Twitter for the latest updates.
