SeaWorld Orlando premiered their new animal show Clyde and Seamore’s Sea Lion High on Thursday, April 16, 2015, and it was a big hit with those in attendance.
The show started with a pre-show example of training the sea lions to do certain behaviors. They explained that the sea lions can get up to 650 pounds, so the first thing they do is establish a relationship between the trainer and the animal. Then they can begin to train the animal based upon the trust in that relationship.
Also prior to the show, the audience is taught the Sea Lion High fight song, complete with lyrics on the screen. Don’t forget to buy your foam fingers and cheerleader poms before you come to school.
Then the show starts, and it’s a perfect showcase for the animals. The storyline is it’s graduation day at Sea Lion High, but we discover that Clyde and Seamore haven’t completed all the classes they need to graduate. Until they do, they’re not eligible for scholarships to go to Ocean University.
Clyde has to retake science and dance, while Seamore has to retake gym, drama, and dance. It was a creative way to keep the action continuous on stage while giving each animal breaks from the action. They also have lunch together, though one of them was definitely getting the best of the Lunch Lady.
Towards the end there is a huge crisis, and Clyde and Seamore have to apply what they’ve learned to save the day.
One of the best theme park festivals in Orlando is SeaWorld’s Bands, Brew & BBQ. Three things that go remarkably well together. The event brings big talent to the stage, and accomplished BBQ joints to the food pavilion. Plus you’ll get to sample a wide selection of beers from our nation’s best brewers.
The festival is scheduled weekends throughout March (7-8, 14-15, 21-22 and 28-29), and Bands, Brew & BBQ is included with regular park admission. I look forward to this event every year.
A few years ago, protestors mis-informed by the one-sided documentary Blackfish, caused some of the music acts to cancel their appearances. Since then SeaWorld has only been releasing the names of each act a few weeks ahead of the weekend. So far we know who will be performing the first two weekends. It’s an amazing lineup.
Scheduled performances now include:
Saturday, March 7: Toby Keith
Sunday, March 8: Lynyrd Skynyrd
Saturday, March 14: Rodney Atkins
Sunday, March 15: Kool & the Gang
Event festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. each weekend, with concerts at 4 p.m.
Okay. They are celebrities in the nature conservation movement, but that still counts. It is true that a visit to SeaWorld Orlando during Wild Days will help guests connect even deeper to the wild and wonderful world we all share. In 2015, the weekend based series starts Jan. 24 and runs through Feb. 8. During Wild Days enjoy interactive shows, up-close animal experiences, and the opportunity to meet those celebrities, including for the first time Bindi Irwin, in the world of animal conservation.
Wild Days Include:
Jan. 24-25: Penguin Lovers’ Weekend
SeaWorld’s Animal Ambassador Julie Scardina returns to host a cool weekend in every sense of the word. Penguin lovers can unite for a refreshingly fun learning experience centered on these feathered friends. Guests will have the chance to meet many amazing animals and hear their compelling stories. Julie will share her story about her lifelong love of animals and the parks’ commitment to wildlife conservation. From 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., guests can continue the celebration at Antarctica: Empire of The Penguin Block Party, featuring a DJ, character appearances and up-close encounters with penguins.
It is Labor Day, the last day of summer 2014, and we decided to head to SeaWorld Aquatica for a little R&R. It is absolutely the busiest I’ve ever seen SeaWorld Aquatica.
It is about 100° today, when you factor in the humidity. So it’s a good idea to stay hydrated. Even if you’re in the water most of the day.
Crowds mean you will have to wait for your favorite water slide, however it is a still pretty easy to walk around and the wave pools and rivers are manageable.
We ate lunch at Waterstone Grill where there was a slow moving line but good burgers and other items. As with all SeaWorld dining, there are no straws with your drinks. Two adults and two kids meals was about $33. Not too bad really.
