Instapic: Lights, camera, action!

Via our Instagram:

Lights, camera, action! This statue of a cameraman is really the forgotten icon of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The statue marks the spot where the park’s dedication plaque now resides.

Many people overlook the second plaque in the area. The one dedicating the “Cameraman” statue itself. It features a quote from Walt Disney himself, “Movies are a medium of expression like a symphony orchestra… or a painters brush and canvas.”

Lights Motors Action hero car nearly sheers off roof in scary accident today

Update: Video of the accident has now been uploaded to YouTube.

Also another angle on Instagram:

Notice how the red light is blinking on the two black cars, that’s an indicator they are in emergency stop mode.

Original post below:

The Lights Motors Action stunt car show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been known to have an accident every now and then. It’s a stunt show, things are going to happen. The good news is that Disney and the professional team of stunt people involved in the show work hard to ensure everyone’s safety.

But some times things go wrong like today. Disney fan Tony Caggiano was in the audience at Light’s Motors Action today and just happened to be running a roll of 30 quick frames off on his camera during the big finale when the red hero car jumps out of the building on the back of the set, down a ramp, and then jumps across the water moat at the front.

Not everything went as planned

An Olaf Summer Planned For Disney’s Hollywood Studios

American Idol Experience to close at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

marquee-aie

Over the weekend news broke that the caste of the American Idol Experience had been informed their show would be canceled early next year. Lower ratings on the TV show have resulted in low guest interest in the park attraction. However, managers are considering promotions like bringing back the popular American Idol Experience Junior Edition where kids 9-14 get their chance to perform before the January bow.

Walt Disney World and American Idol producers released this statement:

“After more than five successful years, The American Idol Experience will be coming to a close at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park in January 2015. Our partnership with FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment has been a great addition to the park and we are very appreciative of the amazing cast and guests who have devoted their time and talent to make this experience special and memorable. We are incredibly proud of the more than 2,000 Dream Tickets that have given guests a chance to live their very own Cinderella story and audition for ‘American Idol’. This past season alone, three of the Top 13 contestants were originally discovered through The American Idol Experience and we expect the attraction to continue providing top contestants for ‘American Idol’ XIV in the coming year.”

The cast and crew of American Idol Experience worked hard to produce what I considered a great show. But its time was always going to be limited.

Fastpass+ Tiers Shifting Slightly at EPCOT and DHS

MyMagic+ Takes the Guest Experience to a New Level with MagicBands

EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are currently the only two Disney parks where you have tiered selection of Fastpass+. This forces the guest to make choices for the first three attractions they experience via Fastpass+ and makes sure the very limited number of e-Ticket style attractions are enjoyable by everyone via the system.

Disney has decided to tweak the system slightly starting June 16 2014. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios Great Movie Ride becomes a tier 1 selection while at EPCOT Living with the Land moves to tier 1 and Character Spot and Maelstrom drop to tier 2. That last one makes the most sense to me. I’m not sure The Great Movie Ride needed the move though, it’s a pretty high capacity attraction.

All previous selections you’ve made will be maintained, but going forward Fastpass+ for the 16th and beyond will conform to this new system. And once you use your three Fastpass+ you can select from any attraction with availability for your 4th, 5th, etc. Fastpass+.

The full updated line-up for the tiered parks is below the jump:

One More Star Wars Weekend Remains

If this was last year, Star Wars Weekends would be over and we’d be focused on what comes next. But for 2014, they added a 5th weekend, which is great for me, because I have not yet been able to get out to Disney’s Hollywood… Read More »One More Star Wars Weekend Remains
