Muppets Most Wanted Teaser Trailer

Disney has unleashed the first teaser trailer for Muppets Most Wanted, the recently-renamed sequel to 2011’s The Muppets, opening in theatres March 21, 2014. As much as I loved the The Muppets, I think this trailer could have been better. But then again, it’s still early… Read More »Muppets Most Wanted Teaser Trailer

Downtown Disney Construction Update

00-dtd-comedy-club-1

Construction on the Disney Springs transformation of Downtown Disney is now underway in earnest. Get ready for a maze of walls, some extra time to get to your destination from the parking lot, and the occasional interruption from construction crews. Fans of Pleasure Island may want to take one last trip to pose in front of the remaining signs and buildings. I’m sure some elements will eventually end up on ebay too.

So without any further ado, here are the photos from my walkabout yesterday:

Disney World Cast Members Compete in Hoike Hawaii Hula Event

hula_cast-member-med

If you’ve ever visited Disney’s Polynesian Resort, then there’s a good chance you encountered one of the cultural ambassadors, watched a hula dance, or maybe attempted to do a little hula yourself. I’ve had the fortune of knowing a few of these friendly people who live in Central Florida, but keep the spirit of aloha alive through their dance. Some of the cast recently participated in the Hoike Hawaii 16th Annual Hula Competition that was held here in Central Florida.

This annual event brings Hawaiian and Tahitian dancers and dance teams from around the United States to Orlando to participate in friendly dance competition with others who share their love of hula culture. Hula is a dance unique to Hawaii and is used to tell the state’s stories and history through movement.Read More »Disney World Cast Members Compete in Hoike Hawaii Hula Event

Want to know what delicious goodies are being cooked up for the 18th EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival marketplace kiosks? Anyone know what happened there?

18th Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Details

Wine Cheese & Thou

If there is one festival I look forward to every year it’s the Food & Wine event at EPCOT. 2013 will mark the 18th anniversary of the event that finds Disney guests sipping and savoring fresh flavors from six continents and more than 25 food booths. When you add in the special events, exhibits and generally fun atmosphere, you just can’t beat it. The 18th Epcot International Food & Wine Festival presented by Chase runs from Sept. 27 to Nov. 11, 2013.

Disney chefs will debut the authentic tastes of Scotland at the celebrated 46-day festival known for innovative food, wine, beer, cocktails, music and entertainment.  The sizzling aromas of more than 25 ethnic and specialized marketplaces including Africa, Brazil and Florida Local will tempt guests strolling the World Showcase Promenade.  Celebrity chefs like Warren Brown and Jamie Deen will bring culinary cachet to special festival events and demonstrations.Read More »18th Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Details

How Disneyland Made a Believer Out of Me.

DL2012(good camera) 064

I never wanted to go to  Disneyland. Sure, I’d heard all about how it was “Walt’s park” and how you could walk in Walt’s footsteps, but to be honest, I’m not very sentimental about those things. I love Disney World, all four parks, the dining options, and the resorts. It didn’t seem necessary to go all the way out to the West Coast (where I was raised, incidentally) when I had everything I needed just a few hundred miles from my front door. But circumstances change and an opportunity arose. I went to Disneyland.

DisneylandChristmas2012 090

Here’s what I found, in a nutshell: Disneyland is both the same and different.  Disneyland feels like a “family” park, with a million pass holders for whom it’s like a second home; Disney World is everyone’s park, a destination for people from all over the world. Their castle is “cute,” not grand like “ours,” their quick-service food is better and the table-service food is spotty in places.Their Haunted Mansion has nothing on ours, except during the fall and Christmas, when they do a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay that is not to be missed.
