Amazing Pumpkin Carving at Disneyland for Halloween

10_14_DL_001686

Pumpkin carvers use the tools of a sculptor to bring an extra dimension of magic to the traditional Jack-o-Lantern carving. This year Disneyland has a pumpkin carver doing their thing every day at the Halloween Carnival in Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree. Check out some of their work:

Disney Channel star Olivia Holt (“I Didn’t Do It”) teams with one of Disneyland’s pumpkin carvers at the Big Thunder Ranch to deliver some tips for carving your own perfect Disney themed jack-o-lantern at home.

Oh yeah, there’s a pretty cool contest at DisneySideContest.com. Upload your own Disney Side pumpkin for a private party at the Haunted Mansion and a stay in Cinderella Castle Suite:

If Christopher Nolan directed Wall-E, A mashup trailer

When Disney’s Big Hero 6 opens on November 7th, it’s going to have some big competition from the latest Christopher Nolan film – Interstellar, which opens on the 5th. Pre-saging that encounter a little bit, video mashup artist Bobby Burns has created a new trailer for Pixar’s Wall-E as if it were a film by Christopher Nolan.

I think that worked pretty well. I’d actually be interested to see an animated film from Christopher Nolan one day. (Not that the 3D digital animation required to make Inception wasn’t impressive.)

Do you think Disney and Christopher Nolan could ever collaborate on a feature film? Maybe he belongs with Pixar. Head below the jump for Burns’ take on The Incredibles as if it were one of the Dark Knight movies from Nolan:

Three Fun examples of Digital Mapping & Projection at Walt Disney World

Celebrate The Magic - Magic Kingdom

Digital projection on a three dimensional object started out as a cool art project by making a building appear to crumble or become a canvas for swimming fish. Disney’s Imagineers were quick to harness the technology and bring it to the parks.

It’s currently in use at the Magic Kingdom as part of the Celebrate the Magic castle show and during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party in Hallowishes and the Villain’s stage show. There’s also a car in the queue of Test Track at EPCOT that’s gets a digital projection treatment. You can also find it in Disneyland Paris as part of the Disney Dreams show, which I hear is fantastic.

The latest use of digital 3d mapping and projection takes it down to the small scale – a wedding cake. Which as cool as it is, is only available to the few guests who can afford the more expensive wedding packages.

So, I started to think where else could Disney make us of digital projection. They did try something once on Spaceship Earth using Mike Wazowski to announce the “Monstrous Summer” promotion in 2013. I’d love to see that idea expanded upon with more night shows on Spaceship Earth.Read More »Three Fun examples of Digital Mapping & Projection at Walt Disney World
