We’ve only had one episode of “Doctor Who” with the new doctor and his companion, but word comes that Millie Gibson, the actress playing the new companion, will reportedly be replaced at the end of the new season with a different actress playing a different companion.

The Details

The new 15th Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) recently debuted in the show’s 60th anniversary special “The Giggle” last fall, and then appeared in the Christmas Special, “The Church on Ruby Road,” where we also met his companion, Ruby Sunday (Gibson).

.

But while Ruby will remain the Doctor’s companion through this next season, which is expected to start airing on Disney+ and the BBC in May 2024, the following season is reportedly already being filmed with actress Varada Sethu (“Andor,” “Jurassic World Dominion”) playing a new companion character.

The Daily Mirror’s Nicola Methven, who is well-sourced on “Doctor Who,” announced the scoop, which has not been denied by the BBC and Bad Wolf, the co-producers of the series. Variety said they confirmed the replacement details.

Methven also stated the decision was made by “Doctor Who” showrunner Russell T Davies, and Gibson will not appear in the 2024 Christmas special after her first full season. In next year’s series her character is expected to appear in just three of the eight episodes, with one of them a standalone story wrapping up Ruby Sunday’s journey with the Doctor.

The new season with Sethu is reportedly already shooting in Wales. Nothing more is known about her character, or why the change occured.

The New Season

The upcoming season will be the first full one with the 15th Doctor (Gatwa), and features Ruby Sunday (Gibson) as his companion.

Yasmin Finney and Bonnie Langford are reprising their respective roles as Rose Noble and Mel Bush in the new season, plus as previously announced, Jinkx Monsoon will debut as the Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet.

.

Guest stars already announced include Indira Varma (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”) as the Duchess and Lenny Rush as Morris, along with Jonathan Groff (“Frozen”), who has a mysterious key role.

Here is a look at what to expect from the Fifteenth Doctor, Ruby Sunday, and their upcoming adventures which will take them to Swinging Sixties London and Victorian England:
