“Cars on the Road,” the newest series in the “Cars” franchise, debuts on Disney+ this Thursday, September 8, as part of the huge Disney+ Day line-up, and we have a sneak peek at Episode 3.
The Need for Speed
The series follows Lightning McQueen (again voiced by Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) as they head east from Radiator Springs on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater’s sister.
In this clip from Episode 3, titled “Salt Fever,” Mater gets a super-charged upgrade and takes it out for a spin…much to the chagrin of McQueen.
The Theme Song
Of course, every good road trip has great music, and “Cars on the Road” gets its title theme song courtesy of Bobby Hamrick.
It’s a catchy country-tinged tune that sums up the show perfectly, and it’s part of a soundtrack now available that also features music by Jake Monaco.

The History
The “Cars” franchise started in 2006 with the original film. “Cars 2” came out in 2011, and “Cars 3” in 2017.
Since then, there have been a string of shorts starring Mater, under the umbrella of the title “Cars Toons: Mater’s Tall Tales,” and several more shorts featuring other Radiator Springs stories, grouped under the title “Cars Toons: Tales from Radiator Springs.”
If you’ve missed any of them, head to Disney+ to give them a watch.
Disney+ Day
Disney+ Day falls on September 8 this year, the day before D23 Expo kicks off, so it’s going to be a huge weekend for Disney fans.
