While Marvel dropped a teaser video for the upcoming “Thor: Love and Thunder” movie last month, it has nothing on the first full trailer for the film dropped during last night’s NBA game on ABC. One that shows more of all of the characters we’ve been waiting to see.
The trailer starts with Korg (Taika Watiti) telling a story to a group of children in a cave. The story of “space viking, Thor Odinson,” how he went from dad bod to god bod, and reclaimed his title…sort of…
Take a watch for yourself, because here is the first full trailer for “Thor: Love and Thunder”:
Lots of jokes abound in the trailer, which also has a serious tone with the introduction of Gorr The God Butcher (Christian Bale), who declares, “All gods will die.”
And did you catch Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as The Mighty Thor splitting Mjolnir into multiples to defeat her foes before gathering it back into one piece? What?? Did Thor even know Mjolnir could do that?
Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) holding her own against Gorr, using Zeus’ Lightning Bolt….
And an angry trapped Thor with the Greek goddesses swooning over him…
And the brief glimpse of what looks like a room full of statues of Watchers (it looks like Uatu the Watcher from “What If…?” to the right of Jane in the photo below):
And that brief pinky hold…awww…the romance is still there.
In addition to the fun trailer, Marvel has released the third in the series of posters for the film (see parts one and two here). Upon posting it to his Twitter, Waititi commented “We tried to put even more things on this poster but it made the film look a bit weird.”
“Thor: Love and Thunder” is due in theaters this summer on July 8, 2022. It is the fourth Thor movie in the MCU, and the second with director Taika Waititi.
It takes place following the events of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” and also stars Russell Crowe, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Jaimie Alexander, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and more.
