Marvel Drops First Teaser and Poster for ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Thor: Love and Thunder

Marvel has decided to start off our week with the first teaser video for the upcoming film, “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

The video, though short, shows us the players – Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Valkyrie, and even Jane Foster, who hasn’t been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World.”

“These hands were once used for battle, now they’re but humble tools for peace,” he says as the trailer starts. “Now I need to figure out exactly who I am.”

The guitar strains of Guns ‘n’ Roses’ “Sweet Child ‘O Mine” start to play as the trailer gives us glimpse of Thor training…but what is with that hat?

We then see the Guardians leave in the Milano for their adventures in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3,” as Thor and Korg (played by director Taika Waititi) head off together.

A quick glimpse of Valkyrie in a suit looking bored, an even quicker glimpse of Zeus (Russell Crowe) holding his lightning bolt, and a wintry scene with no context that pulls back to the slain body of Falligar the Behemoth (Patron god of the Galactic Frontier and champion god of the Tournament of Immortals) are also seen.

Finally, we see a hand grab a flying Mjolnir…a hand attached to Jane in her Thor garb.

The trailer has Waititi’s humor liberally sprinkled throughout, too.

Take a watch:

Also written by Waititi, the movie is based on Jason Aaron’s critically-acclaimed comic book series “The Mighty Thor,” which sees Foster take up the mantle of Thor after he is deemed not worthy.

It also features the character of Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale, a supervillain who was so enraged by Gods that never answered his prayers that he set out to slaughter them all.

In addition to the teaser trailer, Marvel also dropped this very 80’s looking first poster for “Thor: Love and Thunder”:

“Thor: Love and Thunder” is due in theaters this summer on July 8, 2022. It is the fourth Thor movie in the MCU.

It takes place following the events of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Jaimie Alexander, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and more.

Read the official plot summary:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Directed by Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Jojo Rabbit”) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, “Thor: Love and Thunder” opens in theaters July 8, 2022.
