“Big Shot” is a new original series that will be available for streaming on demand on the Disney+ service. It was just announced that John Stamos has been cast in the lead role of the one-hour dramedy. No release date has been shared, but it has been given a 10-episode order.

The show is the story of a temperamental college basketball coach (Stamos) who gets fired from his job and must take a teaching and coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school.

“John is absolutely perfect for this role and we are thrilled that he’ll bring his incredible talent and heart to this project,” says Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+. “Disney has long been known for our aspirational sports stories, and we are so proud to be working with David and Dean on a relatable series that both inspires and entertains. It’s a great fit for Disney+.”

Update 11/1/2019 – Disney+ has revealed more members of the cast of “Big Shot” which goes into production later this month.

Stamos, of course, is also known as a big Disney fan (see also). So it is nice to have him in the family with a new series.

“Big Shot” is written and executive produced by David E. Kelley and Dean Lorey and produced by ABC Studios, a part of Disney Television Studios. Brad Garrett (“Single Parents”), who pitched the original idea to Kelley, is an executive producer on the series, as is Bill D’Elia who will direct the first episode.

David E. Kelley’s list of television hits reads like a who’s who of hit TV shows for the last three decades including: Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, The Practice, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, Boston Legal, LA Law, Big Little Lies, and Mr. Mercedes. Will “Big Shot” join that list one day? Time will tell, but with Kelley on board, it stands a good chance.

Disney+, the upcoming streaming video on demand service that Disney is creating to compete for those valuable direct-to-consumer dollars, isn’t afraid to spend what it takes to bring big names to the platform. Will you be watching John Stamos on the Disney+ original series “Big Shot”?

Can’t wait for “Big Shot” to get your next dose of John Stamos? Remember he’s playing ‘Chef Louis’ in “The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live!” airing Tuesday, November 5 on ABC.
