Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron reaches $1 Billion at box office

According to Disney’s estimates, at some point today, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is set to surpass $1 billion at global box office. That’s a pretty fair achievement considering it’s just entering it’s 3rd weekend in domestic release.

“Ultron” joins Marvel’s “The Avengers” ($1.5B) and “Iron Man 3” ($1.2B) in the billion dollar club. At just 24 days after international release, it already ranks in the top 20 on the highest grossing film list (Avatar is #1 at $2.8B).

Total gross through Thursday was $333 million domestically and $657 million internationally for a tidy $990 million.

In a head to head battle, “Ultron” does lag behind the original Avengers movie. But I give it a bit of a break. The theatrical movie experience faces a lot more competition today than it did just 3 years ago. It’s not doom and gloom though, with schools just starting to get out for the summer, it probably has a few more weekends of good numbers ahead of it.

If you still haven’t seen Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” in the theaters, are you planning to? Read our two reviews (non-spoiler vs spoiler) and then get yourself to the theater this weekend! You definitely want to see it while it’s still playing on the largest screens with the best sound systems!
