Five Dishes to Make Your EPCOT Food & Wine Experience A Success

00-fw-title

Had some friends in town and my wife and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary this week, so we planned a return trip to EPCOT yesterday with the goal to graze around the world sampling some of our old favorites and a few of the new dishes that debuted at this year’s festival. I think it’s safe to say the evening was a success.

All in all I think Disney has done a great job with the festival this year. Many of the old favorites have returned and there are a healthy dose of new dishes to sample this year. They’ve improved the seating around the popular Belgium and Germany booths. The Eat to the Beat concert lineup is also very strong this year.

I’m still not a fan of having so much of the festival take place away from the world showcase in the old Wonder’s of Life pavilion (but I do appreciate the air conditioning there). I also think they’re under utilizing the World Showplace (the big blue tent originally built for the Millennial Celebrations) as it could hold a day long party for all attendees just as well as the few big evening events. I’d love to see food from 60+ countries one day instead of the 25ish we have now. Finally, generally speaking (but not 100% in all cases) the food is much saltier this year than before. After two days of sampling and coming home feeling red in the face with fingers swollen, I’m not happy about all the salt.

Planning your own trip to EPCOT’s International Food & Wine Festival in 2013? While I haven’t sampled all the various dishes (I’m not made of gold), I think I have found a few of the newer selections that really are worth a trip. They are, in no particular order:Read More »Five Dishes to Make Your EPCOT Food & Wine Experience A Success

Original Star Wars Teaser Trailer from 1976

Now that Disney owns Lucasfilm and the Star Wars brand and is working on a 7th movie in the series, it’s instructive to go back to the very beginning. Here’s the first ever teaser trailer released for Star Wars back in 1976. It’s missing a… Read More »Original Star Wars Teaser Trailer from 1976

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Pilot Preview

Once-Upon-a-Time-in-Wonderland

It’s the series premier I’ve been most looking forward to all season, and it’s happening Thursday at 8/7C!

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is the spin off from ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Unlike other spin offs, we aren’t losing any characters from the mother program. However, we have been to Wonderland a couple of times before.

This series will tell it’s own story not necessarily tied in to the original. But it will have the Once twist on the classic story. Alice is older and while on her trip to Wonderland, she meets a genie and falls in love. However, she witnesses the genie be killed before she returns to our world.

Or so she thinks.Read More »Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Pilot Preview

Tips to enjoy SeaWorld Orlando’s Halloween Spooktacular

00-spooktacular-set

I’ve already written about what a great value the SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular is, but now I’ve had a chance to experience the 2013 edition and can tell you my original assessment still stands.

Here are a few tips to enjoy the day:

  1. The Spooktacular trail is least busy shortly after opening and again just before the area closes for the day.
  2. You can start at either end of the trail, but most of the treat stations are oriented for easiest access from the front of the park.
  3. Although SeaWorld provides bags for trick-or-treating, you’ll want to have a larger bag to consolidate all your candy into as you enjoy the rest of your day in the park.
  4. There is a lot to do besides just trick or treating. Take time to interact with the characters, decorate a cookie, or stay for the dance party at the end of the night
  5. Dress your kids up in costumes that are appropriate for the weather and bring a camera to capture the memories.

SeaWorld Orlando’s Halloween Spooktacular is included with park admission and runs over the remaining weekends in October.

More photos below the jump and details on a special “jelly belly” event that only runs during the final weekend. Read More »Tips to enjoy SeaWorld Orlando’s Halloween Spooktacular

Hong Kong Disneyland Getting Marvel Iron Man Experience Motion Simulator Attraction

iron-man-experience-poster-hkdl

So, The First Avenger will be on the cruise ships, The Mighty Avenger will be out in California and it seems that The Armored Avenger will make his first Disney Parks home in Hong Kong. Tomorrowland in Hong Kong Disneyland will soon get a motion simulator based attraction that features Iron Man.

Tom Staggs announced today on the Disney Parks blog that Hong Kong Disneyland will be home to the first attraction based on the Marvel characters (I guess Meet-and-Greets don’t count as attractions). Speculation is HKDL gets the attraction first in order to help its attendance numbers continue an upward trend.

What has been announced so far leads me to believe that the ride will be in the same style as Star Tours.Read More »Hong Kong Disneyland Getting Marvel Iron Man Experience Motion Simulator Attraction

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Episode 3 Preview – The Asset

Disney Marvel Shield

Previously, on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D:

The team went to Peru to figure out what the 0-8-4 is.

On the way, Skye begins questioning her place on the team, as do some of her teammates.

In Peru they find the object in question. We then get our first glimpse of Coulson’s backstory in the form of Camilla Reyes, who he had a past relationship with.

A fire fight with local rebels forces both Coulson’s team and Reyes’ team back on the bus (their name for the plane) and in the air. Fitz-Simmons discovers that the 0-8-4 is a weapon that is fueled the same way the Tesseract is.

At the same time, Coulson and Ward discover that Reyes and her team aren’t as friendly as they seem. They knock out May, capture the rest of team and take over the bus.

Coulson is with his old flame, but the others are tied up in the cargo bay. As a team, they break free and save Coulson and the bus.

The episode ends with a great cameo from Samuel L. Jackson.
