Once Upon a Time 2-17: Welcome to Storybrooke

Welcome to Storybrooke. It sounds like some kind of recap episode. But it was tonight’s all new episode of Once Upon a Time. And it actually made sense when you figured out what was happening.

For once, we never left Storybrooke. We still had a flashback, but it took place in 1983, when the town was created.Read More »Once Upon a Time 2-17: Welcome to Storybrooke

Teams Selected for 2013 MEAC/SWAC Football Challenge

One of the things Disney does really well to support the community is to organize the MEAC/SCWAC Challenge – a college football game that pits two historically black colleges against each other along with additional events around the game. The ninth annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge Presented by Disney will feature the Florida A&M University Rattlers of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) against the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) at Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 1. The yearly event, which features teams from two prominent Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), brings approximately 20,000 fans to Central Florida over Labor Day Weekend for the start of college football season. ESPN will televise the game; exact times will be announced at a later date.

“As a proud supporter of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Mid-Eastern and Southwestern Athletic Conferences, Disney values our longstanding relationship with the African-American community and we continue to build on this with our sponsorship of the MEAC/SWAC Presented by Disney,” said Eugene Campbell, vice president of Domestic Minority Business Development for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “The MEAC/SWAC Challenge is more than just a football game – it’s a celebration for our whole community that underscores the importance of diversity and higher education.”

The annual game will be only the second meeting between the two storied programs – first meeting in 1990 (FAMU won 28-13). Florida A&M played in the 2007 MEAC/SWAC Challenge and was edged by Southern 33-27.Read More »Teams Selected for 2013 MEAC/SWAC Football Challenge

Lea Thompson Meets Tow Mater at Cars Land

Anyone else here a fan of Lea Thompson? Not only is she starring in the hit ABC Family series, “Switched at Birth,” but she also was in so many films of my youth (Back to the Future, Red Dawn, Space Camp, (yes even) Howard the Duck, and Caroline in the City (one of my favorite sit-coms)). Not only that she still looks like she did on the set of Back to the Future. Amazing.

So I can’t resist sharing her photo from when she stopped by to experience Cars Land at Disney California Adventure with her family and friends. Here she is with Tow Mater, who knows something about time travel himself, in Radiator Springs. I’d love to see her voice some characters for Disney, perhaps in a future Pixar film? Who knows. New Mickey Mouse Short – Croissant De Triomphe

A lovely new animated short returns Mickey Mouse to his place of prominence atop the animation pantheon at Walt Disney Animation Studios. In this stylized video, Minnie Mouse runs out of croissants at the cafe she works at in Paris and Mickey Mouse has to take heroic action to deliver the pastries before Minnie’s customers become irate. Oh yes, it’s also in French.

It’s a classic Mickey Mouse plot with many wonderful sight gags and glimpses of some of your favorite Disney characters.

This film is the first of 19 new Mickey Mouse and gang animated shorts scheduled to come from Disney in an attempt to relaunch the classic characters for today’s youth. If they keep producing films of this quality it’s also bound to win over those who have a fond spot in their hearts for the characters they remember from their own childhoods.
