First Trailer for Wreck-It Ralph from Walt Disney Animation Studios

Disney has partnered with MSN to release the first trailer for its next animated feature – “Wreck-It Ralph”. I definitely recommend clicking the little button in the right corner and watching it in HD on full screen. There are a ton of great details hidden throughout (for instance, see if you can spot Paperman). The trailer also includes a first good luck at what the movie will be about.

Wreck-It Ralph lives in the video game world. After hours all the video game characters congregate at Grand Central Station and do things like have support groups for bad guys and meet other characters (including some from classic games like Bowser and Zangief and Q-Bert). Wreck-It Ralph decides that his role as a bad guy is no fun and he wants to be a good guy, so he decides to go visit some other games to see if he can handle the new role. That’s where the adventure begins.

Rich Moore directs and brings some of the humor and fun from his runs helming Futurama and The Simpsons. Starring voices include John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. Wreck-It Ralph will start demolishing theaters everywhere November 2nd, 2012.

John Carter – DVD Contest and Andrew Stanton Interview

John Carter may have failed at the domestic box office, but I don’t believe the final tally reflects the true potential of the film. The movie has just been released on DVD and is a worthy addition to your collection. Director Andrew Stanton did a great job translating a book that is a bit foreign to modern audiences into a live action film. We have a new interview with Stanton below and a chance for you to win a copy of the Blu-ray DVD.

If you missed it in the theater, the epic tale of John Carter is a sweeping action-adventure based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic, A Princess Of Mars. Set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom [aka Mars], the movie is an inspirational adventure filled with stunning special effects, jaw-dropping action sequences and unforgettable characters.

The movie’s lead character, John Carter [played by Taylor Kitsch], is a war-weary, former military captain who’s inexplicably transported to Barsoom and reluctantly becomes embroiled in an epic conflict. It’s a world on the brink of collapse, and Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes the survival of planet and its people rests in his hands.

We catch up with director Andrew Stanton in this interview:

How did the fact that you were a huge fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Barsoom book series affect your work on John Carter?
Once I got the job, I knew that as a writer I had to stop being a fan because it can blind you. You have to do that with your own work, too; even when you have your own original ideas because you can fall in love with them and they can blind you from the adjustments that you’ve got to make in order for the project to work. That’s the reason I like to work with other writers; it helps keep the objectivity alive because other writers will tell you if they don’t think an idea is right.

Dumbo Interactive Queue Preview from Storybook Circus

Yesterday I shared some of the changes to the exterior of the new twin-spinner Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction in Storybook Circus, today I’m excited to be sharing some photos of the interior of that attractions. Wait, you say. Why would a spinner have an interior? It’s all part of Imagineering’s plan to make waiting for the ride less painful.

Back when WDI first started talking about the new Dumbo queue they said rather than lining up in a switchbacks, it would be a place where kids could move freely and interact with various elements in the building. Parents would be able to wait comfortably while watching their kids run around. One’s place in line would be held virtually and an announcement would indicate when your boarding group was ready to head to the loading zone.

Looking at these pictures shared by Disney, that vision looks essentially intact. Perhaps it’s a bit more playground / obstacle course than I envisioned.

Also, Disney says that instead of an announcement to tell you when to grab your kid and head to a loading zone, some sort of paging device will be used. Disney has tested out, in theory, how this system will work during some experiments over at Rock-n-Roller Coaster. According to sources, results were mixed. So we’ll keep a close eye on how this is working out once it opens to guests.

Update: Video of the queue ‘in use’ by kids and some background on the project from an Imagineer.
