This week two of my favorite current obsessions come together. ABC’s Modern Family, the funniest show on TV, and the original Disneyland come together in a special episode. Nothing is more quintessential to good ol’ family fun than a trip to Disneyland – but when the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan hits the park it can’t happen without a side of motion sickness, achy feet and a wayward toddler! Sound Familiar?
Phil tries to keep up with Luke, Claire’s shocked when they run into Dylan, Jay and Gloria disagree about what are sensible shoes for the day, and Mitch and Cam must contain Lily’s new affinity for running. I was able to watch a bit more of the episode in preview and trust me, they don’t pull many punches. This “Modern Family,” episode airs Wed May 9 (9:00-9:31 p.m. ET/PT), on the ABC Television Network.

It is part three of my DCA History Lesson! Every week I will be bringing you a look back at something from DCA’s past, leading up to the June 15th grand re-opening of the park. So come along as we take a stroll through the past and remembering how great it was!
Today, we are heading over to the “San Francisco” area of the park (if you could call that an area) and reliving “Golden Dreams.” The exterior of the theater was a replica of Bernard Maybeck’s Palace of Fine Arts located in the real San Francisco. This 25 minute film took you through the history of California and the dreams the land created. Led by Califia, the Queen of California, played by Unofficial DCA Mascot Whoopi Goldberg, we traveled through the years and realized all the dreams that could stem from one state.
This opening day attraction was highly regarded…for what it was, a movie. It never got Soarin’ style ratings, but it was still very good. Disney tried to add their trademark emotion into the film, which they did with great success. Whoopi playing Califia was a great choice as a narrator and shed some nice humor into the film. Favorite line? When the MGM namesake is looking at ‘The Wizard of Oz” costume designers choice of silver slippers, Califia walks quickly behind Mr.MGM and says “Silver is nice, Ruby is better.” While it showed a huge span of time, it never came off as dull history lesson. They brought life into a film that had the chance to be extremely bland.
With only 3 episodes left after a rollercoaster of a season, I can hands down say that Wednesday’s Revenge is officially my favorite. Maybe it’s because many storylines exploded all over the place, the tension remained consistently high, or Josh Bowman as Daniel made me cry and hate him in a period of about five minutes.
Who am I kidding? It was definitely all three.
It’s snowing in the Hamptons and Declan is still the only one with any sense. But Jack is slowly beginning to catch on. How did HIS hoodie end up in Lee’s car? The Graysons MUST have something to do with it. Finally, he’s piecing this devious puzzle together. His first instinct is to warn Emily. It’s a cute gesture but laughable since she’s pretty aware of what happened and who the Graysons are. He never gets a chance to tell her “the truth” because Daniel interrupts with news. He’s coming home for good.
The people of the Hamptons are just as enraged with Daniel’s release as the people of Orlando were with Casey Anthony’s except he leaves jail in broad daylight. Someone has even written MURDERER on Emily’s car. Even if it seemed like the trial was wrapped up with a pretty (bloody) bow, the drama is far from over. All the newspapers are still running with the story, and Emily suggests that Daniel provide an interview to stop the chatter once and for all.

True confessions time – my brain is fried. As I mentioned in my Castle recap yesterday, I spent Monday and Tuesday this week at Disneyland. Then the last two days have been crazy busy at work. So my insights into Sunday’s Once Upon a Time won’t be quite up to par. But that just gives you an opening to point out all the cool connections I missed.
The Fairy Tale portion of the episode focused on Pinocchio and crossed over into our world. It started with the ending of what we know of the Pinocchio story. We watch him sacrifice his life for his father Geppetto. As a reward, the Blue Fairy turns him into a real boy with the warning that if he isn’t brave, noble, and truthful, he will turn back into a puppet.
But then the Blue Fairy comes back for another visit to ask Geppetto to build the wardrobe that was used to send the baby Emma to our world ahead of the curse. Again, we hear how Emma is the only one who will be able to break the curse. The wardrobe would have enough magic to keep two people safe, James and the pregnant Snow. However, Geppetto says he will only build it if one of those sent through to safety is Pinocchio.
