Videopolis: Whistle Stop

I’m a big fan of Disney’s Robin Hood movie. Not only does it have two characters sharing my name (Little John / Prince John), but it came out in 1973, so it was probably the first animated film I saw in theaters (I would have… Read More »Videopolis: Whistle Stop

No Ordinary Family Episode 1-19: No Ordinary Future

Before we go any further, I’d like to point out that Saturday’s episode wasn’t the season final of No Ordinary Family. We’ve got one more episode coming on April 5th. And based on what we saw tonight, this show is going out with a bang.

I’m sorry I didn’t get to this one sooner. I had a busy weekend playing in an ultimate Frisbee tournament. (My team did well on Saturday but fell apart on Sunday.) But I watched it tonight, so let’s get to it.Read More »No Ordinary Family Episode 1-19: No Ordinary Future

Disneyland adds POTC4 Sneak Peak Show, WDW gets Zip

Sometimes you just have to tell things like it is. Disneyland is getting a great Pirates overlay on its Festival Arena and a nightly preview of Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Add to that some walk around character interaction from Captain Jack Sparrow and you have a terrific opportunity for guest satisfaction and movie studio synergy. Walt Disney World is getting…. zip, zilch, nada. No Pirates 4 preview at all.

I realize Orlando is not exactly the hotbed of movie studio excitement, but there are 40+ million guests moving through Walt Disney World each year, many of whom would be more than happy to return home with tales of a special preview for Pirates of the Caribbean they got to see while on vacation. I’m probably just jealous, but I do think WDW is missing a great opportunity.

Check out below the jump for a behind the scenes look at the transformation of Disneyland’s Festival Arena into the Pirates preview:

Dancing with the Stars: Week 2 Performances

After a smashing season premiere, our Season 12 stars took to the ballroom for another round of performances before the ballroom renders its first cruel judgment of the year. Tonight they dance; tomorrow one couple is sent packing. So which of our stars shone the brightest?

Sugar Ray and Anna
Dance: Jive
Verdict: I think Sugar Ray is more of a classical ballroom guy, because while he looked like he was having fun – it was Your Uncle at a Wedding Fun, not Dancing with the Stars Fun. His feet weren’t pointed, he lost the timing in places … it needed to be a lot better.
Carrie Ann: “You’re such a fantastic showman.” – 6
Len: “I think you’re in jeopardy.” – 5
Bruno: “It needs more punch – in the feet.” – 6

Kendra and Louis
Dance: Quickstep
Verdict: Kendra had her first rehearsal cry for the season, but the dance turned out okay. It wasn’t quite as graceful or refined as it could have been, but Louis got her through it.
Carrie Ann: “I saw more that just the choreography […] Elegance is a state of mind.” – 7
Len: “Overall, I thought you did an excellent job.” – 6
Bruno: “You tried your best, but you were very, very tight.” -6

Tokyo Disneyland moves toward re-opening

Update: Ikspiari re-opened today. That’s a mall area that’s essentially the Tokyo Disney Downtown Disney equivalent.

There’s still no date announced yet, but Tokyo Disney Resort has started moving toward a re-opening date for its resort hotels and theme parks. Their website still says a decision will be made soon, but many of the international cast that were sent home have been asked to return and restart rehearsals.

Even as the performers head back to Tokyo, more stories of what it was like to experience the quake are making into the news. Eva, a parade performer, was in the rehearsal hall when it struck, while Bethany was at home in her apartment.

While no official date for re-opening has been announced, April 1st was rumored to see at least one of the parks open. At this point that seems unlikely, but who knows. Many of the furloughed employees are receiving 60% of their pay while the park is closed.

Also, below the cut is another video showing some scary moments during the quake inside Tokyo DisneySea.

Morning Report – Monday Reflections

Hope you all had a great weekend. Here are some great posts you may have missed. Kevin Kidney found a 1961 fashion photo shoot that featured Disneyland as the background. They just don’t write copy like they used to, and what happened to Mickey’s body?… Read More »Morning Report – Monday Reflections
