Ladies and Gentlemen, get ready to start your toes a tapping for another season of ABC’s hit wonder “Dancing With The Stars.” This season will include a dynamic lineup of stars — two Olympic Gold Medalists, a game show host, a swimming legend and a teen pop star. All will get a professional partner to help them before their first live episode airs on Monday, March 17 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
In a first for “Dancing with the Stars,” the competition will feature a new game changing twist called “The Switch Up.” This season, America will be given the power to vote and change celebrities and professional dance pairings. This new rule will affect all couples as they will be required to switch partners at a point in the season. Never before have dance partnerships been split up during the course of competition.
As announced this morning on ABC’s “Good Morning America” by “Dancing with the Stars” hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews, the 12 celebrities with their professional partners heading to the dance floor this season (in alphabetical order) are:
Billy Dee Williams & Emma Slater Candace Cameron Bure & Mark Ballas Charlie White & Sharna Burgess Cody Simpson & Witney Carson Danica McKellar & Valentin Chmerkovskiy Diana Nyad & Henry Byalikov Drew Carey & Cheryl Burke James Maslow & Peta Murgatroyd Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy NeNe Leakes & Tony Dovolani Sean Avery & Karina Smirnoff Amy Purdy & Derek Hough
I’m leaning toward Danica McKeller as an early favorite. She was most of Generation X’s first TV heart-throb. But Charlie White or Meryl Davis could take it all home too. And you can never count out Derek Hough and his partner. But how will the big twist shake things up? I guess we’ll find out. Who will you be watching for this season?
I used to watch ABC’s Dancing With The Stars pretty regularly and we had great coverage here on the blog. But to be honest, the show, like most reality TV shows I used to watch, had become a bit formulaic. So I deleted the season pass on the DVR a few seasons ago and didn’t look back. I am willing to give the new season of DWTS a chance, but they better wow me and change up the usual stories. What will have me watching is the presence of a great line up of celebrities and one mechanical engineer – Bill Nye. He’s my early pick, just because so many young adults today grew up watching his TV show, plus, as you know, bow ties are cool now. Watch the two-hour season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars,” MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
“Dancing with the Stars” returns for Season 17 and shakes things up by transitioning to a one night, two-hour format. The one-night extravaganza will feature competitive dance, dynamic group performances and musical guests, all building to a climactic elimination. Each week viewers can vote for their favorite dancing performance. Beginning with the second episode on Monday, September 23, one couple will be eliminated at the end of the show by combining the judges’ scores from that night with the public votes from the previous week.

ABC is out with its latest entry into the world of reality TV tonight. Splash promises the requisite moments of angst and embarrassment we ask from shows like this, but with a spin that is admittedly unique.
After weeks of training with professional divers and being mentored by the world’s most decorated and medaled diving legend, Greg Louganis, five of the 10 celebrity contestants will face their fears as they flip, twist and spin into the depths of the pool below. The two with the lowest scores will go head to head in a dive-off to determine who will be the first contestant sent home, on the series premiere of “Splash,” TUESDAY, MARCH 19 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET).
One of my favorite novels by science fiction author Charlie Stross is “GlassHouse.” The concept is that participants volunteer to live an experiment where the rules reward certain behavior and punish others. Stross takes it to new levels that deal with the very concepts of… Read More »ABC’s The Glass House – New Twist on Reality TV for Disney
