No D23 Expo? Try the Disneyana Fan Club Convention

Did you have a great time at last year’s D23 Expo, you’ll have to wait at least another year for that to return. But you do have the opportunity to enjoy a Disney Fan convention with many years of history putting on a great show every July. The Disneyana Fan Club (formerly known as NFFC) has arranged another wonderful convention for Disney fans everywhere.

From July 13th – July 18th at the Crown Plaza Resort just down the street from Disneyland in Garden Grove you can enjoy four days of seminars, the chance to meet those who make the magic for Disney, and the Saturday Show and Sale where you can pick up just about any piece of Disneyana you’ve been looking for your collection.

Some of this year’s presenters will include, legendary Disney cartoonist Floyd Norman, Willie Ito, whose career in Disney animation harkens back to the famous Lady and the Tramp spaghetti scene, the McKim family, noted Disney blogger Jim Hill, themed entertainment industry leader Gary Goddard, Imagineers Kim Irvine, and Tony Baxter, and the amazing and truly unforgettable June Foray.

Leonard Maltin Named First Disneyana Fan Club Heritage Award Honoree

Well, the name change may not yet be official, but that hasn’t stopped the Disneyana Fan Club, aka NFFC, from moving forward. A new award honoring individuals outside the Walt Disney Company who have made significant contributions to promoting awareness of, as well as the preservation of, Disney history, will be awarded from the first time in January.

The first recipient of the NFFC—Disneyana Fan Club Heritage Award is Leonard Maltin. In addition to his internationally best selling series of books, Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide, Mr. Maltin’s other works include, Of Mice and Magic: A History of American Animated Cartoons and The Disney Films. Additionally, he wrote the television special, Fantasia: The Creation of a Disney Classic.

Mr. Maltin is also active in the home entertainment field hosting and producing, among other titles, the popular series of Walt Disney Treasures DVDs.

More about the luncheon and Maltin’s contributions below the jump. But don’t forget the December 10-13 Holiday Show and Sale in Orlando in the meantime. Learn more at NFFC.org.

NFFC to become Disneyana Fan Club

NFFC Summer Convention Preview

Although an ‘official’ Disney fan organization has recently come on the scene there are still plenty of good reasons to get involved with the NFFC, the Disneyana Fan Club. For example, there are plenty of things you can say or do at a fan organized convention that you just can’t do at a company sponsored event.

Registration is now open for this year’s 25th Anniversary NFFC Disneyana Convention and All Disneyana Show and Sale July 14 thru July 19 at the Anaheim Crowne Plaza Resort, which is located in Garden Grove, CA.

The 25th Anniversary Convention is shaping up to be the biggest and best Disneyana bash yet, with such Disney favorites as Don Hahn (Disney producer extraordinaire), Paige O’Hara (the voice of Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast), and Jodi Benson (the voice of Princess Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid) scheduled to be part of Celebration Banquet, A Royal Gathering.

Rebecca Cline, manager of the Disney Archives, is scheduled to give a presentation of rarely seen film footage and items from the Mickey Mouse Club Circus. There may even be a few surprises from Disney’s new official fan community D23, which Rebecca is a significant part of.

Of course several of your favorite Imagineers and Disney artists, past and present, are planning on attending the 25th Anniversary NFFC Disneyana Convention and NFFC All Disneyana Show and Sale as well.

Seminars, brunches, banquets, NFFC Disney Legends Luncheon, gigantic NFFC All Disneyana Show and Sale and of course sharing great times with good friends will all be part of this year’s blowout 25th Anniversary event.

NFFC Fall Convention moved to December

First, congratulations on NFFC on their new name. As indicated in the press release below, they are in the process of changing to ‘Disneyana Fan Club’ with the full approval of The Walt Disney Company. I think that says something about the way NFFC has been run the last few years and how it’s the best club out there for Disneyana collectors and fans.

The biggest recent news is that the usual fall Orlando convention has been downsized and moved from early October to December 12th, 2009. The event takes place on WDW Property at the Regal Sun Resort which features easy access via WDW Transportation.

With this move NFFC/Disneyana Fan Club moves into the time slot formerly held by the popular Mega Mouse Meet that was part of MouseFest. Mousefest is on hiatus during 2009, but this should give those who are coming to Florida anyway the chance to enjoy some of the same spirit.
