Princess Half-Marathon Weekend adds New Race and More Fun

01-run-disney

Although I personally have yet to partake in any runDisney events, I’ve been pleased to be invited to cover a few. All of them have their own quirks and styles, but there is something that unites them all and that’s the magic of running at Disney. That element turns out to be so popular, even with 7 race weekends throughout the year, runDisney can’t keep up with the demand. But that’s okay, they continue to add new opportunities to their existing races, such as broadening the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World Resort next year by adding a 10K and a new two-race challenge.

The Princess 10K gives runners of various levels more opportunities to run through Disney theme parks and receive a specially-designed finisher medal. And runners looking for an even bigger challenge can sign up for the 10K on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday (19.3 miles total) to earn the inaugural Disney Glass Slipper Challenge Medal to go along with medals from each individual race.Read More »Princess Half-Marathon Weekend adds New Race and More Fun

Amazing Marathon Weekend Winds Up With Many Winners at Walt Disney World

This year’s Disney Marathon weekend threatened to be known for its shoes. The Mickey & Minnie New Balance running shoes were a hit online and at the event. But in the end, it was about the runners. Everyone of them pushing their own limits and some of them setting world records. Along the way there were celebrities, new friends, and a lot of fun.

Perhaps it was fitting that at the 20thannual Walt Disney World Marathon the greatest champion in the event’s history – Brazil’s Adriano Bastos – reclaimed his place in the victory circle Sunday.

Bastos, who had won seven previous Disney Marathons, including six straight before losing the last two to countryman Fredison Costa, this time held off Costa down the stretch for his eighth victory at the place Where Dreams Come True.Read More »Amazing Marathon Weekend Winds Up With Many Winners at Walt Disney World

New Balance becomes official Running Shoe of Walt Disney World, RunDisney

Hold the phone. If you know me, you know I don’t run unless something scary is chasing me, yet this news that Disney and New Balance are teaming up for a multi-year strategic alliance today that includes exclusive Mickey & Minnie themed running shoes, running-specific initiatives, and co-branding opportunities has me considering getting off the couch for a jog. New Balance is pretty much the only shoe that fits my foot, so this is, pardon the pun, a perfect fit for me.

This exciting alliance will bring New Balance’s innovative, design-forward athletic footwear to the leading vacation destination in the world, in particular Disney’s thriving sports business. As part of the collaboration, New Balance becomes the official athletic shoe of Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. New Balance also becomes the official running shoe for runDisney race weekends and the official baseball shoe of amateur baseball events at the Sports Complex.

In addition, New Balance also becomes the title sponsor of the track & field facility at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, home of the annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic and Disney’s Track & Field Spring Training for high school and collegiate teams. Future initiatives include the creation of maps for the running trails at Walt Disney World Resort and fitness programs for Disney resort guests interested in pursuing healthy options.Read More »New Balance becomes official Running Shoe of Walt Disney World, RunDisney

Families with football players in their midst take note, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will bring his first football academy, the Drew Brees Passing Academy and Tournament for high school players, to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. Brees, who visited Walt Disney World after winning the super bowl, will help make dreams come true for aspiring players during the camp.

The prestigious four-day academy, which is open to all skill levels but is expected to attract some of the most highly-ranked high school players in America from June 27-30, will involve elite-level instruction from Brees and other marquee NFL players and coaches. The academy participants will learn insider tips related to virtually every facet of the passing game, from the proper throwing motion to throwing on the run to taking command of the huddle, from one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks.

The academy is the latest collaboration between Brees and Disney. In 2010, Brees appeared in the famous “I’m Going to Disney World” commercial and Super Bowl parade at Walt Disney World following the Saints’ championship win over the Colts. In 2011, Brees acted as spokesman for Walt Disney World during the week of Super Bowl XLV in Dallas, Texas.

Braves 2013 Spring Training Schedule Announced

It’s an annual tradition for many. Escape the cold winter temps and follow their favorite MLB baseball team to their spring training location. This year the Atlanta Braves Spring Training at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will draw a marquee lineup of baseball teams, including the New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers making this the year to start your tradition if you’ve ever considered it.

The Braves, who earned a National League Wild Card berth in 2012, report to the complex for two weeks of training in early February, before opening at Champion Stadium on Feb. 22 against Detroit. The late February date marks the earliest start for Braves at Disney since the team arrived in 1997.

A pair of visits by the Yankees, Feb. 23 and March 16 (night game), a March 12 contest versus the Cardinals, and a March 18 game against the Philadelphia Phillies highlight the schedule.
