Dancing with the Stars 6.5 – Latin Night

It’s time for the hottest night of the competition. Unlike normal weeks where half the couples are doing a Latin dance and half are doing a ballroom dance, this week, everyone will be doing a Latin routine. So turn on a fan (or the air conditioner) and let’s get to it.

Dancing with the Stars Week Four: The Waltz and the Paso

Heading into week four, we get to watch the stars dance either the Viennese Waltz or the Paso Doble. These always make for a fun combo. Hopefully tonight doesn’t disappoint.

Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas – Paso Doble – Well, if Kristi was going to work on her emotions, this was the week to do it. This dance is always more fun with some emotion. Again, she was technically perfect. But I felt she still had some work to do on her emotions. She did have more then one facial expression, but it still seemed a little stiff to me. Len agrees with me, but Bruno and Carrie Ann thought it was a huge step forward.

Scores: Carrie Ann – 10 Len – 9 Bruno – 10 Total – 29 That’s exactly what I expected from the comments. The first 10’s this season, and just barely off a perfect score. And we’re only on week four.

Traditional Broadcasting Continues to “Adapt”

It’s not a good time for journalists, or to be a terrestrial radio personality. As newspapers merge and cut back and radio stations cut back, ABC competitor CBS is cutting back the news staff at the network and its stations. Jacob Adelman has the story for the Associated Press.

CBS-owned TV stations in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago are reducing their news staffs. The cuts include two well-known anchors in Los Angeles, five on-air veterans in San Francisco and one of Chicago’s highest-paid anchors.

About a dozen news staffers will depart KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, according to a person who works at one of the CBS-owned stations and requested anonymity because policy prohibits disclosing personnel matters.

KCBS and KCAL (formerly owned by The Walt Disney Company) are both owned by CBS, with KCBS carrying the network programming and with the stations sharing a newsroom and personnel. CBS also owns Los Angeles news radio stations KFWB AM 980 and KNX AM 1070, and there is further crossover with them.

The person told The Associated Press on Tuesday that longtime anchors Ann Martin and Harold Greene will leave when their contracts expire in May. Others, including reporters Jennifer Sabih and Jennifer Davis, were laid off Monday.

Technical staff was also trimmed, the person said.

More details about who is getting cut where is at the link.

Georg Szalai and Kimberly Nordyke have the Reuters/Hollywood Reporter take. My thoughts are after the jump.

Week Three Results

After watching last night’s show, I can hardly wait to see what happens tonight. So shall we get to it? Okay, the only prediction I was at all confident about was the encore. But I was dead wrong. The judges decided they wanted to see… Read More »Week Three Results

Dancing with the Stars Week Three – Turbulent Tangos and Leg Pumping Jives

Yes, I stole that title from Samantha’s introduction. But it seems to fit as the dancers take the floor for round three.

This was also a turbulent night for the scores. I’ve blogged this live, so you can see how my thoughts change as the night goes on. Tomorrow is going to be a highly unpredictable night.

Marlee Matlin & Fabian Sanchez – Jive – Considering how fast and intricate this dance can be, this will be an interesting performance to watch. Not that I doubt she can do it. I’m completely expecting to be blown away. And I was. It wasn’t as fast and frenzied as the Jives I normally love are, but it was still fun. And the fact that she never misses a beat, even when they are dancing apart, completely amazes me. Bruno said she lost the timing a few times, but I sure didn’t notice. And Carrie Ann picked on hands. I’ll let you in on a secret, if the judges are nitpicking on week three, you’re in pretty good shape.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 7 Len – 7 Bruno – 7 Total – 21 I expected at least one 8. Rather hard to predict how that will stand up at this point in the night, but based on the last two weeks, that should but her in the top half for the night.

Week Two – All Together Put ‘Em

Week two. Twelve stars. Two hours. So they’ve got probably about 8 minutes each to tell us about their week, dance, get critiqued, react, and get their scores. And that allows two minutes per star for commercials. I think this is going to be a very busy night. So let’s get to it, shall we?

Meet Kevin Johnson (Lost: Season 4 Episode 8)

My alternate title for this episode would be, "Vote Sayid 2008". He is the only one on this entire island (or freighter) that asks any questions or demands any answers! What did I say I wanted to see in this week’s episode? That Sayid and Michael/Kevin would have an
open, real and fast-paced conversation. And this week’s episode delivered!

One more thing before we get into the actual storyline…last week’s flashFORWARD/flashBACK had a lot of people calling the Lost writers sneaky and mean. I thought it was brilliant. (It’s not like they didn’t give us any clues!) This week is just another example of why the Lost writers are brilliant—the entire episode was basically a giant flashBACK. We hardly had any interaction with the Island or the freighter. And lord have mercy, did we get some answers!
