Drexel Heritage, maker of upscale furniture, has announced a new line of furniture based on the life and times of Walt Disney. The Walt Disney Signature line looks almost like you’ve walked onto a Hollywood set of a studio maven’s office from the 30s or 40s (althought Walt’s offices at the time were not so… Read More »Drexel Heritage Walt Disney Signature Furniture Line
Charles Phoenix, known for his retro-postcard slide show events, has started offering ‘walking tours‘ of Los Angeles. If you’ve ever seen or heard Phoenix’s talk, you know that alone would be worth the price of admission. But Phoenix tops it off by drawing a multitude of parallels between Walt Disney’s crown jewel themepark of Disneyland, and the icons of Souther California that played such a major part in the development of Walt Disney the man.
If you can’t make the walking tour, you can get a taste of what you’re missing with this fascinating video on youtube. It’s embeded below the cut, or you can click here to see it.
I like to see Disney using its existing media to promote its other products. As long as its done in moderation. Tonight 20/20 will have a segment on PL Travers and Mary Poppins the musical. The musical is now playing on Broadway. If you don’t get 20/20 or can’t wait, you can see it online… Read More »Mary Poppins Segment on 20/20 tonight
How Bowers, author of the Tiki Talk blog, takes a look at the origin of the Polynesian Hotel logo at Walt Disney World. When placed side-by-side with the resort’s logo, it’s easy to see how the designer took the overall shape and pose from the carving’s character but made him “friendlier,” which maybe not so… Read More »Polynesian Hotel logo origin clues
TV Squad asks if all Grey’s Anatomy fans are crazy. They have a sampling of questions from a recent appearance of Chandra Wilson on the new Rachel Ray show. The first woman gets up and asks "What’s Dr. McDreamy like in real life?" Um, first of all, he actually has a real name (and he’s… Read More »Grey’s Anatomy, over the line?
A remodeled theatre in the corner of Disney’s Animal Kingdom themepark is about to become the focus of Disney’s latest entry into the musical theatre market. Finding Nemo, the Musical will be a 30 minute show that features brand new songs, puppets, and special effects that are sure to please the average guest. If it becomes a breakout hit, it might even find it’s way to Broadway in an extended format.
LaughingPlace.com has scored some official Disney photos of a dress rehearsal for the show. You can really see the influence of Michael Curry, who co-created many of the puppets for The Lion King on Broadway as well as some Disney parades and the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Some
puppets are larger than life — such as Crush (seen above), the cool sea turtle who
is nearly the size of a Volkswagen. Other characters will be portrayed
by a diverse array of puppetry styles, including rod, Bunraku and
shadow. This AP article has a few more details
The show is set to open to guest previews in Mid-November sometime. Hopefully by the 18th, but that’s not a guarantee.

I may have been premature in my celebration over the demise of Disney’s reality-tv show "Extreme Makeover". The full body sculpting show has been brought back to the schedule for ABC. I’m left wondering if audiences have an appetite for this sort of reality-tv anymore. Frankly, I’d rather see the Extreme Makeover Home Edition spinoff… Read More »Extreme Makeover sneaks back into the schedule
