Dancing with the Stars – Sambas and Tangos

You could almost say this is part two. As they reminded us at the beginning, because of Misty’s injury, Rocco stayed even though he was the low score. However, the judge’s and viewer’s votes are carried over. So he and who ever else are near the bottom have a lot to prove if they want to stay. The real question is, can they do it?Read More »Dancing with the Stars – Sambas and Tangos

Dancing with the Stars: Jive, Viennese Waltz, & Injury

Well, I am getting a much later start on this then I had planned. I got caught up in the novel I was reading and just had to finish it. How people ever survived in the days before they could record TV somehow is beyond me.

So this week promises more dancing and another injury to deal with. (Is it just me, or are those becoming more frequent with each passing season?) Shall we get to it? Besides, we get the Viennese Waltz and Jive tonight. And you know how much I love me some Jive.Read More »Dancing with the Stars: Jive, Viennese Waltz, & Injury

Dancing with the Stars: Rumba and Paso

As John mentioned, last week I was out of town. In fact, I spent all last week at DisneyWorld. It was my first trip there. I am exhausted, but it was completely worth it.

But now it’s back to the real world, and part of that means getting to recap/share my thoughts on Dancing with the Stars with you. I did get to watch part of last week. (My stupid DVR decided not to record Tuesday for whatever reason. And that was a Quickstep night, one of my favorites!) So I have a little idea what happened then.

I do want to comment on the over exposed memo that has been floating around. (I’ve seen it several places today.) Every season when the show starts, they take up the majority of a week. The last two seasons have started with one round of dancing Monday, a continuation of that round of dancing Tuesday, and results on Wednesday. The only reason people are harping on it this time is because of Ted McGinley. And seriously, if you are going to announce that any show he is in is on the way out automatically, then I can’t take you seriously either. (Not that I am too familiar with his work. But still.)

So, on to this week’s performances. (And remember, I am still on East Coast time even though I am back in California. I’m just saying.)Read More »Dancing with the Stars: Rumba and Paso

Opening Night Sleeping Beauty at the El Capitan

As John posted last week, Disney is showing Sleeping Beauty in a limited engagement at their El Capitan Theater in downtown Hollywood. It’s showing for the next three weeks while we wait for the 50th Anniversary DVD and Blu-Ray release to come out in October.

Thursday night was the first showing of the film in this theater. It was preceded by a panel discussion on the film. And I was lucky enough to get to go.

Even though I live about 40 minutes away, this was my first time to the El Capitan Theater. It’s just easiest to go to a local one. But I was quite impressed with it. This is an old time, one screen affair with a balcony. I just had to sit in the upper section. I got there early and got to hear an organist playing Disney songs until the evening’s program actually got started. That was lots of fun.

Up first was the panel. It was hosted by Don Hahn, the producer of such big hits as Beauty and the Beast (my favorite movie ever) and The Lion King. I think he was as pleased to be there as the rest of us were.

There were five people on the panel itself. Blaine Gibson and Frank Armitage actually worked on the film as animators. Bob Thomas wrote his first book on Disney animation during the period they were working on the film. Tony Baxter is currently an imagineer with Disney. Finally, Princess Aurora herself was there in the form of Mary Costa. Each member of the panel got a few minutes to talk about some aspect of the film.Read More »Opening Night Sleeping Beauty at the El Capitan
