The Announcement

The Film

“The Little Mermaid” live-action film is the beloved story of Ariel (Bailey), a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure.

The youngest daughter of King Triton (Javier Bardem), and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King).

While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

“The Little Mermaid” 2023 is a live-action remake of Disney’s hit animated 1989 film of the same name – which itself is based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.

It also stars Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Jessica Alexander, Noma Dumezweni, Jude Akuwudike, Lorena Andrea, Art Malik, and Kajsa Mohammar.

The film is directed by Rob Marshall (“Mary Poppins Returns“), and Disney Legend and original The Little Mermaid composer Alan Menken teams up with the award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Encanto) to come up with four new songs for the beloved soundtrack.
