Disneyland announced late Friday (Feb 10) that they were pushing back the reopening of Mickey’s Toontown until March 19, 2023, and we have the reason why.

The Details

Mickey’s Toontown was originally scheduled to reopen on March 8, 2023, after a year-long closure to completely reimagine the space.

However, due to strong storms that passed through Southern California this winter, Disneyland realized they needed just a little more time.

“Due to heavy winter storms that impacted our construction momentum, we are adjusting the reopening date of Mickey’s Toontown to March 19. We can’t wait for our Guests to visit and experience the reimagined land,” a Disneyland official said in the announcement.

One of the area’s signature attractions, “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway,” already opened on January 27, as part of the “Disney 100” celebration kick-off.

What to Expect

When Mickey’s Toontown does open on Sunday, March 19, it will look vastly different.

CenTOONial Park, the first space guests will see when they enter the land, will feature open, grassy play spaces.

It will be anchored by two new interactive play experiences: a beautiful fountain featuring water tables designed for play that invite guests to have a sensory experience; and a nearby dreaming tree with sculpted tree roots providing an opportunity for children to crawl and explore.

Inside Goofy’s House, Guests will find a fun, interactive candy-making contraption that only Goofy could imagine, and Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard will incorporate a whimsical sound garden where kids will discover new ways to make wacky noises.

Donald’s Boat will be perched in the duck pond of the Goofy homestead, with larger-than-life spinning water lilies, balance beams, and rocking toys at Donald’s Duck Pond that will help little ones get the wiggles out.

Young thrill-seekers can enjoy the area’s other main attraction, Chip ‘n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster, where Mickey’s Toontown’s favorite tinkerer, Gadget Hackwrench, has created a one-of-a-kind, fun-sized coaster for the town’s tiniest citizens.

Over at Mickey’s House and Minnie’s House, you’ll once again be able to step right into their homes and enjoy a self-guided tour as you discover special surprises in every room. You may even be able to visit with Mickey and Minnie while you’re there, should they be home.

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin will also return, where you can board Lenny the Cab and spin through the streets and alleys of Toontown as you follow the adventures of Roger Rabbit.

Finally, there are two places to grab a quick bite to eat: Café Daisy will serve up diner classics at a sidewalk table eatery, and Toontown Farmers Market at Good Boy! Grocers will offer grab-and-go drinks and treats.
