‘Splash Mountain’ to Close at Walt Disney World January 2023 For ‘Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Disney Parks announced today that “Splash Mountain” at Walt Disney World will be closing in January 2023 to make way for the transformation to “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.”

The Date

The last day to ride “Splash Mountain” at Magic Kingdom will be January 22, 2023, as the attraction will close for good on January 23, 2023.

No closure date has been given for Disneyland’s “Splash Mountain” yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear of one.

Tiana’s Coming

It was announced in 2020 that “Splash Mountain” on both coasts would be closing to make way for a new attraction, “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.”

Inspired by 2009 film, “The Princess and the Frog,” and the city of New Orleans, this reimagining of the ride will follow Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans.

The attraction is scheduled to open in Late 2024 at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

A New Scene

Along with the closure news, Disney Parks revealed a bit about a new scene that will take place in the attraction.

This new scene takes place in the thrilling moment riders first drop into the bayou, and encounter some friends both new and familiar.

Inspired by the Louisiana bayou, the scene will feature Zydeco music playing as band members sing and play instruments made of natural materials they found, while various critters hang around.

Here is the artist rendering of that scene:
