Five tips to enjoy Villains After Hours at Magic Kingdom

Disney Villains After Hours is back at the Magic Kingdom on select nights now through July 10, 2020. This event requires a separate ticket, but allows you to enjoy the park with a very limited attendance cap and a full menu of Disney villain themed fun.

We’ve collected a few of our favorite tips that will help you get the most out of your evening.

How to see the Villains? You get two chances to see Disney villains during Villains after Hours. First is the stage show “Villains Unite the Night” which takes place on the castle stage and features Hades, Jafar, The Evil Queen, Dr. Facilier, and Maleficent. We found the best view for this show is between the Partners Statue and street. Too close to the stage and you miss some of the digital projections and fireworks. It is a long show though, so if your primary objective is to get on a lot of rides, you may want to pass on this one.

While you won’t get a chance to have your photo taken with a Disney Villain at the event, you can enjoy them up close and personal in the new “Villains Cursed Caravan,” which is a character cavalcade featuring iconic villains like the Queen of Hearts (as a face character!!!), and for the first time Ursula the Sea Witch. There are two times for the caravan. They both start in Frontierland, but only the second continues down main street. The first just does a loop in front of the castle then heads back through Frontierland.

Let your freak flag fly at Cinderella Castle where a DJ keeps the energy going at a sinister soiree. Take a moment to enjoy how the lighting really transforms the hub of the park. You don’t get a chance to enjoy the Magic Kingdom in a night club like atmosphere very often, so take advantage of it.

There’s a variety of food created just for the event that’s wickedly good, but you won’t want to skip the free food. Ice cream treats, sodas, and popcorn will keep you fueled through the late night. While there are a lot of stands throughout the park, there are none on main street, so load up with that last Mickey Bar at the two castle hub locations before you head out for the night.

Disney caps the attendance of each event at a low number, so you’ll be able to experience very short wait times at more than 20 attractions in the Magic Kingdom. That said, at the beginning of the event, some of the day guests are still circulating through the standby queues at the big rides. This is a good time to hit the stores and pick up that exclusive event merchandise or pose with your friends at one of the photo backdrops scattered throughout the park.

Finally, a bonus tip. You can save $10 off the price of a ticket if you buy early and there are Annual Passholder and Disney Vacation Club Discounts. We recommend entering right at 7pm and picking up a bite to eat before the evening’s fun begins.
