We were excited to discover that Disney Theatrical was working on a stage musical version of it’s “Freaky Friday” movies. Both the 1976 movie starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster and the 2003 remake with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have a lot of charm. I’ve not read Mary Rodgers original novel, but it has provided great source material for Disney.
Freak Friday, of course, tells the story of an overworked mother and her teenage daughter who magically swap bodies then hilarity ensues. In the musical they have just one day to put things right before mom’s big wedding. The new musical is a contemporary update, set in the present day with a pop-rock score, just like each version before it was set in its present day.
Here’s an inside the magic look at the studio cast recording of Freaky Friday.
