Disney Springs construction update – January 2016

disneysprings-0116-6

2016 is shaping up to be the year of continual construction at Walt Disney World. Near the top of that list is Disney Springs, the shopping, dining, and entertainment district formerly known as Downtown Disney. This is our first look at some areas of Disney Springs construction we haven’t really focused on before. There’s a new garage, buildings in Town Center as seen from Buena Vista Drive, and much more.

When Disney Springs is complete it will feature more than double the amount of stores, restaurants, and entertainment options than before the transformation began. Two huge parking garages will make getting into and out of the area easy and a new central bus and taxi terminal will drop guests off just a few feet from their destination, no matter where they plan to go at Disney Springs.

It will have new dining experiences from some top chefs from Orlando and beyond along with some big brand name stores that are new to the Disney Experience. If the recent new additions are any indicator, Disney is pushing to move Disney Springs in a more upscale direction. There’s a lot of amazing new food, for instance, but you still have to rely on Earl of Sandwich if you want a more affordable meal.

Construction near the Marketplace that will connect to the new Towncenter district:

Work around the actual ‘springs’ of Disney Springs.

The Edison, STK Orlando, and some more work around The Landing

Towncenter will more than double the number of shops and restaurants

Finally, transportation options are being improved

No official completion date for Disney Springs has been announced. So far, Disney has just been opening new locations as they’re finished. Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to experiencing on your next trip?

  1. We didn’t make it to WDW last year and won’t be going this year until the Fall so I’m really excited about Disney Springs, it’s going to have taken a huge leap forward since our last visit.

Looking forward to checking out the Town Center, The Edison, and the Boathouse on our next trip :)

  2. My original impression when the timeline was announced was that they would be in the finishing stages when we get there in early April; after looking at this, I’m not so sure it’s even going to be close.

  4. Enjoyed the video. I’m always interested in what Disney’s doing. Who did the music and what’s the name of the song? Thanks.
