CMA Nomination Reactions from a Country music fanatic!

splash-mockup-bc

As many of you regular readers know, I LOVE Country music. Old Country, New Country, Pop Country, Rock Country…I love it all! With this in mind, I am always on pins and needles for the Country Music Association Awards nominations to be released, as the show is broadcast on ABC, this year on November 6th at 8pm. This is the big daddy of Country Music awards…the Oscars of Nashville, so to be nominated is a HUGE deal. The nominations were released on September 10th, so I thought I would give my opinions and predictions on who will take home the awards on CMA night.

Disney testing Second Screen App with The Little Mermaid Re-Release

the-little-mermiad-bluray

It’s safe to say that movie studios feel under siege these days. Poor box office performances from supposed blockbusters, more families downloading movies and watching them at home, and competition for attention with that omnipresent handheld internet device are challenges that any studio must overcome to survive. The Walt Disney Studios is not giving in easily and has announced a new experience where animation fans can join a new interactive theatrical event for the whole family: “Second Screen Live: The Little Mermaid.”

Beginning September 20, this beloved musical adventure returns to select theaters for a special limited engagement, only this time viewers are encouraged to become a part of the story. This unique engagement marks the debut of Disney Second Screen Live, a new second-screen technology that allows audiences to engage with the film, each other and their fellow audience members.

By simply downloading the free “Second Screen Live: The Little Mermaid App” to an Apple iPad or iPad mini and bringing their Mermaid-loaded devices to participating theaters, fans and families can interact with the film, play games, find hidden treasure, sing along, and compete with the audience for the chance to win great prizes!

This brand new, magical theatrical experience starts on September 20 at the following theaters:Read More »Disney testing Second Screen App with The Little Mermaid Re-Release

Top Ten Signs You’re a Disney Family.

If you’re reading here, you probably like Disney a lot, but are you a Disney family? Is there a dusty tangle of Mickey Crocs on the floor of your hallway closet? Do you have a stack of old Key to the World cards on your desk? Have people just given up on asking where you’re taking the kids on vacation? If so, you’re probably part of a Disney family. For further clarification, see if you identify with the following statements:

10. You’ve put a six-year old in a stroller and no one even blinked.

9. You gauge the practicality of your children’s outfits by how easily they can climb in and out of rides while wearing it.

8.  You’ve tried to use a snack credit for a Slurpee.

7. Your child quotes The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World to strangers in line at the grocery store like some sort of tiny, demented Disney evangelist.

6. Your kid doesn’t know when your birthday is or where she left her homework, but she can tell you at any time how many days left until her Disney trip.Read More »Top Ten Signs You’re a Disney Family.

California Grill: Meet Chef Brian Piasecki

California Grill Chef de Cuisine Brian Piasecki

California Grill Chef de Cuisine Brian Piasecki spent nearly a year perfecting a new menu with seasonal ingredients and a lighter touch, such as baked local prawns and wild Columbia River salmon with Zellwood sweet corn pudding. He’s been a part of Disney’s excellent foodservice team since his apprenticeship in 1991, rising through the ranks to eventually take over The California Grill in 2009. I had the chance talk with Chef Brian a few days before the restaurant officially reopened after a long remodel process:

Universal Orlando Plans to Hold Disney’s Feet to The Fire

diagonalley-2

There’s one thing Universal Orlando wants you to know. It is not content playing second fiddle to Disney’s Orlando theme parks. They want to challenge for the lead, well, they at least want to close the gap between them and Disney’s least attended park.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom attracted 9.9 million last year and Islands of Adventure just 8.0 million. Universal Studios Florida did not experience the same boost as IOA did with the addition of Harry Potter, but they’re making up for it in 2013 with a better parade, Transformers 3D, and soon more Harry Potter with Hogwarts Express and Diagon Alley.

But even if you add in all that additional ride capacity it won’t be enough to match the people eaters that are Disney’s parks. So Universal has committed to spending $500 million more on its domestic theme parks. We know that Universal Studios Hollywood will get a Harry Potter attraction or two (construction walls are going up now). But what does that mean for Orlando? How about two new rides for Islands of Adventure.Read More »Universal Orlando Plans to Hold Disney’s Feet to The Fire
