Revenge – Season 1, Episode 9

Hi Revenge fans! Turkey and travel delayed my viewing of this week’s episode but I have come out of my food coma psyched to talk about another crazy Revenge adventure.

While we are about to jump into December, the people of the Hamptons are still scheming through the longest summer in existence, heavy on the drama.

If you remember from last week, Emily/Amanda/Kara has not cooperated with our Emily and left for Paris. Instead, she has permanently attached herself to Jack and he likes it. (I guess you can’t blame the guy since he’s getting nowhere with our Em but really? Ugh.) Nolan spots her in town (on the Amanda boat) and immediately alerts our Emily.

Emily puts on her sweet voice and tries to get through to Kara. You. Cannot. Stay. But Kara is not having it. She’s tired of running and people not knowing who she really is. Now that she is Kara, things could work out! “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. You can’t stay,” Emily tells her sternly. Looks like their little alliance is not as strong as our Em once thought; Kara doesn’t need Em’s permission to do anything. She is staying.

Conrad decides to spice things up between Tyler and Daniel, proposing some “friendly competition”. Whoever is able to score an investor at Conrad’s lunch the fastest (for a $20M deal) will keep the full commission (and obviously have a leg up). Tyler is just about drooling over this opportunity, while Daniel is in. After just a week (or two — I’m not sure about the time period since the last episode), he seems to be enjoying this job. Tyler, on the other hand, continues his wily ways. It seems he stole Nolan’s credit card to buy himself and Ashley some Hamptons-esque attire for the luncheon. This guy is just a piece of work.

Tourism Official – Shanghai Disneyland Expected to Draw Big

While this isn’t coming from an official Disney representative, there was some interesting news made at the International Academy of Tourism expo in Shanghai. Construction is just underway on Shanghai Disneyland, it won’t open until 2016, but expectations are already pretty high. According to Alastair… Read More »Tourism Official – Shanghai Disneyland Expected to Draw Big

Modern Family – Season 3, Episode 9: Punkin Chunkin

So we might not have gotten a Halloween episode from the Pritchetts and Dunphy’s this year, but we were treated to a great Thanksgiving episode this week. Phil and Claire are reunited with Kenneth (guest star Josh Gad), their former neighbor who looks up to Phil. He dropped out of college to start a company with a friend of his, that turned out to be very profitable. His secret to success? He always asks himself “what would Phil Dunphy do?” Luke asks his dad, if Kenneth became a “kajillionaire” by asking WWPD, why aren’t the Dunphy’s rich? Why isn’t Phil doing what Phil would do?  This causes Phil to realize that Claire is holding back his dreams.

At the park, Cam and Mitch are chatting with a couple when Cam starts a story about “chunkin punkins.” He tells the dragged-out story with drama and flair, and it doesn’t result in the reaction he wanted. Mitch tells Cam he should “stick to stories that actually happened” which sets off an argument over whether Cam actually slingshotted a pumpkin across an entire football field that landed in the sunroof of a car.

Manny has created a centerpiece for Thanksgiving, which Gloria says she loves. Jay, on the other hand, wants to tell Manny that it isn’t his best work. The two of them argue over what is better for him, to be built up, or to be given realistic advice.

As you can see, all three families have a story about some members “crushing the dreams” of the others. When the families get together for Thanksgiving, they separate themselves into the “dreamers and the Pritchetts.” To settle the debate, everyone goes to a football field to see if Cam can actually “chunk the punkin.” After the first try is unsuccessful, the Pritchetts feel bad that it didn’t work. They don’t want to be viewed as the dream crushers. The second time works better, and the third one soars all the way across the field.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Muppets Disappoints

The Muppets, the seventh film bringing Jim Henson’s The Muppets to the silver screen, is receiving tremendous critical and popular acclaim. It currently holds a 97% rating, “Certified Fresh,” on Rotten Tomatoes, gets 4.5 stars out of 5 from the viewing public, and even claimed a very glowing review here on this very blog.

I’m afraid it falls to me to be a dissenting voice. *Warning Spoilers*

We’ve seen this movie before. It’s essentially The Muppet Movie all over again. Another film it shares tremendous similarity with is The Country Bears. Any commonality with Bears is not a good thing as far as the box office goes. Someone pick up the phone and let Disney Studios know that ‘We’re getting the band back together’ has been done… a lot. I’m tired of this silly old plot and it would have been nice to see something else instead.

Walt Disney World Update – Part 2 of 3

Continuing our stroll through Walt Disney World… Part one had a bunch of Fantasyland Expansion photos, let’s start with a few more:

A lot of rock work is still underway, but those trees you see in the foreground are newly planted. They’ve also been doing some other landscaping, which is behind the wall, so you can’t see it. On the left you can see that more progress has been made on Belle’s cottage.

Here’s a shot showing how close the rock work and castle wall from Beast’s castle comes to the back of Gaston’s Tavern. Note the saddle roof design. Should be really beautiful when finished.

Click image for Larger. Here’s another view where the saddle roofs are more obvious.
