Sunday Roundup

  • Disney has even more loot on its hands as National Treasure held the #1 box office spot for the third straight weekend. So far it’s brought in more than $270 million. I wonder if that’s enough to build Nicolas Cage his Disneyland attraction?
  • All the holiday programs and decor is gone from Walt Disney World’s parks and resorts, but Josh snuck into Magic Kingdom and took some great shots of Cinderella Castle all lit up with the icicles.
  • Now that the holidays are over Disney-MGM Studios has officially switched names to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Disney Enquirer has a historic look at the park and how it’s changed over the years.
  • Here’s an odd little story of some recovered stolen original artwork from Disney’s masterpiece Fantasia.
  • Finally, I was sent this youtube video of Miley Cyrus in concert on the Best of Both Worlds Tour with The Jonas Brothers. At about the 2:20 mark on the video Miley Cyrus leaves the stage and a fake Hannah Montana replaces her. I couldn’t tell you if this is standard practice on concert tours, but I know it’s fairly standard practice in other show business. Still if  you’re shelling out the big bucks to see Miley Cyrus sing, shouldn’t you at least be seeing her on stage and not some double? Oh, and does this imply that she was lip-syncing too? Quelle horror! The video is below the cut if you want to witness the act for yourself.

But sales of these next-generation discs fell short of… Read More »Is Blu-ray Victory Too Late?

Warner Drops HD, Stick With Blu-ray

Warner Brothers Entertainment (including, presumably, New Line Cinema) has been supporting both the HD-DVD and Blu-ray formats in the high definition DVD market.  However, the company is now dropping HD and continuing to support Blu-ray, the same format Disney supports. Blu-ray got a big boost in June when Blockbuster Inc. announced it would stock only… Read More »Warner Drops HD, Stick With Blu-ray
