New Fantasyland Update – Vertical Construction on Mine Train Coaster has Begun

Popped into the Magic Kingdom for a late afternoon stroll and was surprised to see how much work has progressed in the last two weeks. Not only has the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train coaster gone vertical, but lots of little details have been added to the already detail rich Storybook Circus area. Let’s go see, shall we:

Former Walt Disney Parks & Resorts President Lands A Director Job

After giving 40 years of his life to a career with the Mouse, Al Weiss retired in November 2011. But you don’t have to worry for Al, he’s just been appointed to the Board of Directors at the Apollo Group. Mr. Weiss will serve as an independent director of the company, and will sit on the audit committee.

“Al brings a tremendous amount of business talent and expertise to the board,” said John Sperling, executive chairman of the board of Apollo Group. “Not only did Al lead Disney’s Parks and Resorts division through its strongest period of revenue and profit growth ever — in the midst of a worldwide economic recession — he did so without compromising the high-quality experience Disney’s guests have come to expect.”

Disney Moves Up Opening Date for Art of Animation, Book Today

Disney recently opened part of Storybook Circus ahead of schedule and now they’re moving up another project at the resort. The wings dedicated to the popular films featured at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will now be opening than sooner than expected after the resort hotel’s grand opening May 31.

“We are excited that the Cars, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid wings at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will all open earlier than we originally planned, bringing more permanent resort jobs to Central Florida sooner,” said Kevin Myers, vice president of resort operations for Walt Disney World Resort. “Demand for family suites exists in the marketplace today and the new opening dates reflect how optimistic we are about tourism in Central Florida.”
