Triumph is a pretty big word for a movie that hasn’t even opened in North America yet. But the word absolutely fits Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.” It has opened in a few overseas markets where it’s already doing gangbusters at the box office and… Read More »Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War a Triumph of Super Hero Movie Making

I’ll admit, I’m a big fan of Marvel. I’ll also admit that “Captain America: The First Avenger” isn’t one of my favorite Marvel movies.
With the release of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” however, Marvel not only has another hit on their hands, but firmly entrenches this Avenger as a major force to be reckoned with in the Marvel Universe.
Where the first movie introduced Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his superhero alter ego’s origins, this movie takes place in a post-Avengers world. One which Rogers is not only trying to catch up with, but one in which he’s trying to find his place in.
As the movie opens, Captain America is now working for S.H.I.E.L.D., but he’s not totally comfortable with all the grey areas the organization likes to operate in. He has an uneasy working relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Marvel’s “The Avengers” set the bar really high for movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Iron Man 3” answered with the first hints of a new direction and “Thor: The Dark World” showed that humans could fight along side the super heroes and survive. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” takes that world and twists everything around setting the stage for “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
But I’m getting ahead of myself and the plot.
As the story begins, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, is settling into his new role in the modern world, but finding the fit a bit uncomfortable. When he sees how S.H.I.E.L.D. plans to respond to the troubles of the modern world, Rogers confronts Nick Fury. Fury has his own concerns, which brings him to the attention of The Winter Soldier, and that’s when the excitement really begins.
Meanwhile, Rogers and Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, discover the loose threads of a villainous plot and pull on them to see what is exposed. What they discover threatens to change the world forever.Read More »Captain America: The Winter Soldier Sets New Standard, Direction for Marvel Movies
