Wreck-it Ralph Soundtrack Scores Big Game

Wreck-it Ralph PosterWe are getting more details today on the soundtrack for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Wreck-it Ralph. Also, as of today, it’s available for pre-order from Amazon.com. From the trailers we’ve seen so far, the movie is going to tap into the collective love of retro arcade games. These games themselves are tied to a very specific musical landscape, I can’t wait to hear how it all plays out.

Wreck-it Ralph follows the journey of an arcade-game bad buy who embarks on a quest to prove he’s really a good guy. Along the way he travels through wildly diverse arcade-game worlds, including the ’80s-era, 8-bit video-game world of Fix-It Felix, Jr., the ultra-modern first-person shooter game Hero’s Duty and the candy-coated cart-racing game Sugar Rush. Helping to differentiate these worlds from one another are unique cinematography, animation, effects and music. “Music is another way to set the stage and make these worlds completely different,” said producer Clark Spencer.

But not just any music. Filmmakers tapped diverse and unexpected artists to help tell the story. Composer Henry Jackman created the film’s score, which is complemented by original songs and music from Skrillex, AKB48, Owl City and Buckner & Garcia. Directed by Rich Moore, produced by Spencer and featuring the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes into theatres on Nov. 2, 2012. The film’s soundtrack from Walt Disney Records will be available Oct. 30, 2012.

Brave Soundtrack Transports Moviegoers to Ancient Scotland

One of the reasons I’m looking forward to Pixar’s Brave is the promise of a musical soundtrack that evokes the rich tapestry of Gaelic culture. It sounds like I”m in luck. Patrick Doyle’s score promises authenticity with a fresh and contemporary approach to, as well as two original songs performed by lauded Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis. A third original song plays during the film’s epilogue and is performed by UK singing sensation Birdy with British folk rock band Mumford & Sons.

“The music of ‘Brave’ supports the story, bolstering this epic journey with Merida,” said Director Mark Andrews. “The music really sets the tone for the film and underscores the time period. We wanted to capture this ancient feel of Scotland and the music really adds another layer of authenticity.”

The “Brave” soundtrack will be available wherever music is sold on June 19, 2012 or you can pre-order it now on Amazon. The track list follows:

1. “Touch the Sky” Performed by Julie Fowlis
2. “Into the Open Air” Performed by Julie Fowlis

Disney Channel’s “Lemonade Mouth” Rules the Charts

Anyone with a pre-tween or young teen in their house can probably tell you about “Lemonade Mouth,” the latest blockbuster from the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise formula. That’s because the movie has become the #1 DVR’d movie of the year among kids and tweens, and its soundtrack is on a rocket in the billboard 200. I’m sure Disney is hoping this will be their replacement for the once powerhouse High School Musical series.

The premiere of the music-filled kid, tween and family movie “Lemonade Mouth” gained another 1.5 million Total Viewers via DVR playback (delivering 7.1 million viewers) and is cable TV’s biggest L+7 gainer of the year among Kids 6-11 (up 620,000 to 2.96 million) and Tweens 9-14 (up 560,000 to 2.64 million), making it TV’s #1 movie of 2011 among those youth demographics and solidifying it as the #1 cable movie in Total Viewers. It was also a family viewing event, 54% of Adults 18-49 who watched the premiere telecast of “Lemonade Mouth” co-viewed with a Kid 6-14.

This week, the “Lemonade Mouth” soundtrack on Walt Disney Records again ranks at #5 on the Billboard 200 and is #1 on the Billboard Soundtrack chart. Radio Disney’s Top 30 includes “Lemonade Mouth” songs “Determinate” at #1, “Somebody,” “Breakthrough” and “Don’t Ya Wish U Were Us?” Strong digital sales continue with the soundtrack currently at #19 on the iTunes Top Albums and #2 on the iTunes Top Soundtrack rankings.

The DVD + Digital Copy, “Lemonade Mouth: Extended Edition,” including an additional scene (hinting at the future of the group) and an exclusive music performance of “Livin’ on a High Wire,” releases in the U.S. on Tuesday, May 24 and in Canada on May 17. In the exclusive scene, Lemonade Mouth, the once average high school students turned chart-topping group, guest on “The Music Scene” and during their interview, heartthrob Charlie reveals he still has a crush on Mohini who in turn inadvertently reveals she is dating Scott, much to her father’s astonishment. Olivia also surprises Wen when she tells viewers they are “dating-ish.”
