Check out this first trailer for Thor: The Dark World, aka Thor 2. There’s a lot riding on this film for Disney and Marvel. We’ve seen that Iron Man and the Avengers can draw wild box office numbers, while the first Thor was just successful. If this film can carry the momentum Marvel has built up over the last year or so, then I think it has a pretty good chance.
The trailer rocks anyway. Let us know what you think in the comments.
I was recently asked why if Disney Oz The Great and Powerful isn’t performing up to Disney Studios expectations have they already started working on a sequel? First off, working on a sequel and going into production are two different things. But secondly, Disney does have some amazing expectations for the Oz franchise. Heck Imagineering has already built a model of the Emerald City with expectations of adding it as a whole new land to a certain theme park.
According to BoxOfficeMojo, at $453 million so far, Oz is performing well versus other films released at the same time and versus previous years, but it’s disappointing when compared to the success of Tim Burton’s billion dollar box office hit Alice in Wonderland. Alice’s numbers were the stretch goal (aka best possible scenario) for Oz. I think Disney would have been happy to have reached 70 or 80 percent of Alice, but right now, it’s on trajectory for just over 50 percent.
Despite a few critical pans, Disney Oz The Great and Powerful met expectations at the box office this weekend conjuring over $80 million. It made some magic overseas as well bringing in another $70 million. That’s 15% of the way to passing a billion dollars… Read More »Oz is Great and Powerful at the Box Office

Recently, “Almost Home” was released online, the new song from Mariah Carey which will be featured on the Oz The Great and Powerful soundtrack. Give it a listen!
So, what do you think? Personally, I am in love! Such a catchy beat and not the usual sound for Mariah. I will be definitely purchasing this tune!
Walt Disney Records will release the digital original motion picture soundtrack for “Oz The Great and Powerful” on March 5, 2012. Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman reunites with director Sam Raimi for “Oz The Great and Powerful” after composing original scores for the filmmaker’s blockbuster hits “Spider-Man,” “Spider-Man 2,” “Darkman” and “A Simple Plan.”
Elfman said, “I didn’t really go in with any sense of what I wanted to do other than just to follow the film. It was incredibly clear because the characters and what they were doing, and what their quests were, and what needed to be done, were all laid out, so I fell into it very easily.” Elfman employed a traditional orchestra for the film to give the music a classic feel. He relates, “Sam did want a very strong, traditional feel to this movie. I think there has always been the feeling that we’d like to try to give it a classic feel and a timelessness.”
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times Raimi said, “Danny has a grand arsenal of musical abilities. He’s able to create a sweeping gigantic sound that can really describe a tremendous scale and help us create this very unique world that Frank Baum wrote about, the land of Oz.”
