Thoughts During Movies: The Hundred Foot Journey Edition

Un_viaje_de_diez_metros-843965194-large

Distributed by Touchstone, The Hundred Foot Journey was released in theaters this weekend. It’s been a while since I’ve done this, but I had a lot of thoughts during this film, so I had to let you into my brain during the film. It’s not a typical review, but I think it gets the idea across.

Stream of consciousness and possible major spoilers ahead, so read at your own risk.

  • Loving the score so far, fusion of French and Indian musical themes. Does that thought make me “musically inclined”?
  • Wow. That’s a super depressing way to start a film.
  • Okay, this first 15 minutes is incredibly slow, and if I have to hear “Papa” one more time, I’m going to explode. I may also explode on the person sitting behind me, rubbing their foot against my chair.
  • Helen Mirren has arrived, and she is a female dog. Can’t not love her, though, which I sense will be a problem for me accepting this movie.

Trattoria al Forno Italian Restaurant Coming to Disney’s Boardwalk

Trattoria-Al-Forno-Logo-640x378

Trattoria al Forno, a new restaurant featuring Italian cuisine with authentic ingredients and recipes from Italy’s various regions, is set to open at Disney’s BoardWalk in December 2014. The name comes from “trattoria” — an Italian restaurant serving simple food and “al forno” or food baked in oven. The restaurant will showcase old world techniques, including handcrafted mozzarella made daily, a variety of Neopolitan-style pizzas baked in wood-burning ovens, and other classic italian favorites such as risotto, baked lasagna, chicken great alla Parmigiana with tagliatelle pasta and more.

I’ve been wondering what will replace Kouzzina, the Greek inspired Cat Cora restaurant, which itself replaced Spoodles another Greek inspired menu. Now we know that Disney is just moving next door on the map to Italy. With a couple really good Italian options right next door in EPCOT, you have to wonder why they went with Italian at the Boardwalk.

Trattoria al Forno will boast an extensive wine menu with more than 60 offerings by the bottle and more than 25 wines by the glass, including Chiantis, Super Tuscans and fine Italian white wines such as Prosecco, Pinot Grigio and Moscato. Desserts such as tiramisù, gelatos, and the signature bomboloni (Italian donut holes) with dark chocolate and vanilla gelato round out the menu.

The Disney Parks blog outlined even more expected menu items:

Maya Grill Review

Note: Please welcome guest author Angela Jenkins who is back from a recent trip to Walt Disney World. My friend and I recently stayed at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort for a convention. We wanted a nice place to dine and relax after a long day… Read More »Maya Grill Review

Food Truck Bazaar at Downtown Disney Delights

02-food-cover

Although Orlando’s gourmet food truck scene is not a stranger to the Walt Disney World property, the marquee Food Truck Bazaar event had never been held on property until last weekend. Disney has used food trucks at ESPN WWOS to help feed Soccer and Baseball fans, they’ve invited a few trucks in for weekend events at Downtown Disney, they even built four Disney-fied food trucks as permanent citizens of the shopping and entertainment complex. But they had never had an event dedicated just to the food truck scene.

Thankfully, Disney decided to partner with the class act that is the Food Truck Bazaar. They have great relationships with many of the over 75 food trucks that operate in Central Florida and know which ones will work the best in each location. Food Truck Bazaar also has its finger on the pulse of Central Florida’s foodies. That means they can bring the crowds and excitement that make an event like this a must see for anyone.

Of course, this being Disney, there were a couple of magic touches that I appreciated. In addition to the 14 food trucks, there were some drink stands, a lot of tables (although not quiet enough), and some roaming squads of entertainers. Here’s a short taste of the evening.
