Why “Trophy Wife” is THE show to watch this season

Trophy Wife

Malin Akerman stars in this new ABC comedy about wife coming into a household with an older man as a husband and kids from two previous marriages. “Trophy Wife” has been named that ironically according to the creators, as Malin’s character breaks that stereotype within the first episode.

Most media has already seen the pilot and reviews have been very good, with most saying it’s one of the best comedies this season. For me though, without even seeing the show, I know it will become my favorite because of the team behind it.

Disney’s The Jungle Book Musical Moving Soon to Boston

jungle-book

The New York Times has a review of a new musical based on Disney’s Jungle Book movies (and the original book, of course).

this modestly scaled and refreshingly spectacle-free family musical seeks to kindle children’s imaginations by softly blurring the line between man and beast, relying on the talents of designers and performers to create illusions rather than dazzling the senses with elaborate effects.

The rest of the review is a bit more critical, but it’s constructive stuff that can be fixed in further productions.Read More »Disney’s The Jungle Book Musical Moving Soon to Boston

live-action-films

Disney’s box office calendar for the next few years has already been announced, but many projects lacked details. At D23 Expo we began to get some of the important details we’ve all been waiting for. Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, and Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, presented overviews of the upcoming Marvel Studios and Disney live action slates.

A recap of the presentation follows:

ANTHONY HOPKINS, NATALIE PORTMAN, TOM HIDDLESTON, KEVIN FEIGE (PRESIDENT, MARVEL STUDIOS)

  • Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” thundered into D23 with an introduction by its producer, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who then introduced stars Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins to the excited crowd.

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.  Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, p.g.a., from a story by Don Payne and Robert Rodat and screenplay by Christopher L. Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery “ #83 in August, 1962. The film releases November 8, 2013.Read More »D23 Expo: Live Action Movies from Marvel and Disney

American Idol Experience Opens to Junior Performers for Limited Time Magic

aie-junior

The Walt Disney Company has a long tradition of supporting youth performers, from the original Mickey Mouse Club showcasing some of Hollywood’s best talent to Magic Music Days giving school kids the chance to perform in a Disney theme park. For one week during its Limited Time Magic promotion, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is extending that idea to the American Idol Experience.

The age limit for performing at American Idol Experience has always been tied to the TV shows eligibility requirements. If the winner got a dream ticket they couldn’t use, that would make no sense right?

From August 12-18, Disney will have one Juniors Show, where contestants aged 6-13 can perform. They won’t get a dream ticket, but they will get an amazing experience.

The special taste of showbiz will begin with an audition in front of a Disney producer, just like the regular show. The three contestants chosen for the Juniors Show will get a Hollywood-style showbiz treatment including cosmetology, a vocal training session and walk-through rehearsal before taking the stage in front of the live audience. The three finalists will also get feedback from the panel of judges. It’s not mentioned if the audience will vote for a winner or if some other ending will be involved.

If your child wants to enter, we’ve included the list of songs choices below the jump. Better get rehearsing right away.

imagineering-pavilion

Today is the grand opening for the first D23 Expo post opening the membership to anyone for free. Some are expecting this expo to be the last hurrah for the Disney fan club, but I have hope that it will find its footing and return again in two years. But that’s getting ahead of ourselves.

This highlights of this years event will include:

  • Disney Legends Awards–a stirring biennial event that pays tribute to the talented men and women who have made indelible contributions to the Disney legacy
  • A Walt Disney Imagineering Pavilion
  • A preview of the Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD pilot episode.
  • And all-new 12,000 square-foot Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit featuring costumes, props, and set pieces from Disney’s rich history

Plus amazing live events, celebrity appearances, panels and presentations, sneak peeks, and unique experiences that celebrate the past, present, and future of Disney. However, there won’t be a large Disney Parks & Resorts pavilion, nor are any big announcements about the parks expected.

In the preview video below Steven Clark, head of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, talks about what’s in store for this highly anticipated bi-annual event. Featured highlights this year include “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives,” showcasing the 50th anniversary of “Mary Poppins”, the ABC drama “Once Upon a Time,” and a look at the long-standing connection between Disney and L. Frank Baum’s beloved series of books about the land of Oz.Read More »D23 Expo Opens Today, Sold Out for Saturday
