Star Vs. The Forces of Evil – Introducing A New Animated Show on DisneyXD

star-vs-foe-title

Daron Nefcy is the creator, executive producer, and an animator of a new show for Disney Television Animation. “Star Vs. The Forces of Evil” started as a sketch during her third year of CalArts and now it’s an animated series premiering on DisneyXD in just a few days.

“Star vs. The Forces of Evil” follows Star Butterfly, a fiercely awesome teen princess from another dimension. After receiving an all-powerful magic wand for her 14th birthday, Star is sent by her Royal Parents to live with the Diaz family and their responsible son, Marco, on Earth where she brings along her own unique inter-dimensional style to her new home. Together with Marco, they navigate high school and embark on dimension-hopping adventures across the multiverse while keeping her wand out of the clutches of arch-nemesis Ludo and his monstrous forces of evil.

Acclimating to life on a new planet with a new family can be challenging, but fortunately for Star, karate-loving Marco acts as her guide, helping her adapt to her new planet. In return, Star helps Marco come out of his shell, teaching him to take chances and make the most of every day, even if that means living a little too close to the edge. Although opposites in many ways, Star and Marco become fast friends and rely on each other as they experience new adventures and challenges across a variety of exciting dimensions. Along her journey, Star must learn how to use her powers responsibly and stay out of trouble, or risk being shipped off to St. Olga’s Reform School for Wayward Princesses on her home planet while she waits to inherit the throne.

ABC’s Forever “Dead Men Tell Long Tales” with guest star Cuba Gooding Jr.

ALANA DE LA GARZA, DONNIE KESHAWARZ, LORRAINE TOUSSAINT, CUBA GOODING JR.

I watched the first few episodes of ABC’s Forever and really fell in love with the concept and the characters. Ioan Gruffudd convincingly plays Dr. Henry Morgan, a NYC Medical Examiner who discovered he can never die. Alana De La Garza plays Jo Martinez, the capable NYPD Detective that pairs up with Henry to solve crimes. The supporting cast includes Judd Hirsch, Lorraine Toussaint, and Joel David Moore.

Henry’s long life has allowed him to gain certain skills valuable to survival. These including amazing observational skills and a rich depth of personal experience from which to draw on. The show has a lot of Sherlock Holmes elements to it, which I like, but also works as a police procedural. Finally, there is that ultimate mystery to solve. Why did Dr. Morgan develop his ability to life Forever?

Alas, a busy schedule caused me to fall behind on the series, but I just caught up with the last few episodes in time for the series to return from a short break.

In the newest episode “Dead Men Tell Long Tales,” we discover that when the owner of a treasure hunting salvage company is murdered, the investigation leads Henry and Jo on a chase to find the missing ship’s gold and the killer, but they unearth a lot more than they bargained for. Ironically, the ship is the one where Henry was first killed. Read More »ABC’s Forever “Dead Men Tell Long Tales” with guest star Cuba Gooding Jr.
