Walt Disney World Resort has announced “Test Track” at EPCOT will be temporarily closing this summer to beging a reimaging of the attraction, and here’s what you need to know
The Details
“Test Track” will be closing on June 17, 2024, to begin the transformation envisioned by Disney Imagineers and ride sponsor Chevrolet.
The last day to enjoy the attraction in its current design will be June 16, 2024.
Disney first shared plans to reimagine “Test Track” during “Destination D23 2023,” when it revealed the initial concept art below, and said the new version will integrate a “spirit of optimism” embodied by “World of Motion,” the EPCOT attraction that “Test Track” replaced.
In making the closing announcement, Walt Disney World released a second image, showing concept art of what the front entrance area will look like when it reopens:
The History
This will be the third major version of the attraction, which opened in 1999 as a mock safety course, and was sponsored by General Motors.
Then in 2012, “Test Track” got a new sponsor – Chevrolet – and switched the ride focus from a safety test to car design. It used the same ride track, but the story was different.
No word on how big of a change will be made to the actual ride portion, if any, or if it will just beanother change in story.
Also no word on how long the attraction will be closed this time, but in 2012, it was closed for approximately 8 months. We’ll let you know when we hear of an exact reopening date.
Are you excited to see what changes will happen to “Test Track,” or are you happy with the way it is? Let us know in the comments.
I can’t hardly wait for the new Test Track 3,0!
