According to a new Los Angeles Times article, “Autopia,” a gas-powered attraction located within Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, is getting electrified in the near future.

The Details

The classic attraction, popular among young guests who get to experience driving for the first time, opened with the theme park in 1955.

But even though the attraction is as old as Disneyland itself, the park is updating the ride to no longer use gas, as part of the Disneyland Resort‘s efforts toward net zero emissions by 2030.

“As the industry moves toward alternative fuel sources, we have developed a roadmap to electrify this attraction and are evaluating technology that will enable us to convert from gas engines in the next few years,” Disneyland Resort spokesperson Jessica Good said in a statement

Disney didn’t confirm whether the cars would be transformed into full electric vehicles or hybrids, or give a more specific timeline for when the project would be completed.

No word, either if the version of Autopia at Disneyland Paris or the Tomorrowland Speedway at Walt Disney World would also be converted.
