During The Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of Shareholders on April 3, 2024, a new concept art image was released for the upcoming proposed “Avatar” project Disney CEO Bob Iger wants to bring to Disneyland Resort.
The Details
Iger first announced ‘Avatar’ would be coming to Disneyland in February 2023, then a year later said it might even be an entire land, and this new concept art seems to support that.
The image features a water-like setting, perhaps hinting the project will use the second film in the series, “Avatar: The Way of Water” as the basis for the design and attraction offerings.
Take a look:
In revealing the image, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman, Disney Experiences, stated, “We are excited about the stories our guests could experience at Walt’s original theme park destination after approval of DisneylandForward – including the chance to experience all-new ‘Avatar’ adventures with a visit to Pandora.”
As we’ve posted previously, the size and scope of this project is dependent upon the approval of DisneylandForward by Anaheim, which would allow Disneyland the flexibility to convert its land into new attraction, dining, and shopping areas.
So while we’re being teased with images, nothing concrete can be planned until they find out if they can get approval, so this project is still a long while from being a reality. It’s possible we may hear more at “D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Expo” in August.
