Disney CEO Bob Iger Announces ‘Avatar’ Will Be A New Land at Disneyland Resort

'Avatar' Will Be A New Land at Disneyland Resort
.

At the Morgan Stanley Conference on March 5, 2024, Disney CEO Bob Iger talked a bit about a proposed “Avatar” presence at Disneyland…and possibly elsewhere.

The Details

During a February 2023 Disney earnings call, iger first announced a new attraction based on the “Avatar” franchise would hit Disneyland “soon.”

Speaking during the conference yesterday, he expanded on that initial announcement, saying, “We have one ‘Avatar’-based land, Pandora, in Florida. We’re going to put a second one in California. That doesn’t mean we can’t put one somewhere in Asia or somewhere in Europe, for instance.”

Iger also said the company could build seven new full lands at its parks around the world, and it has the ability to expand Disneyland Resort in California by more than 50%.

Avatar Land

So the attraction will now be an entire land at Disneyland Resort…which leaves questions.

1) Where will they put it? They currently don’t have a lot of space to put in a new land without removing another.

Of course, that’s the crux of the DisneylandForward campaign. The resort is currently petitioning the city of Anaheim for permission to restructure the land it owns to allow them to open new attractions and perhaps a new land, without having to destroy existing lands and attractions within the two parks.

Here’s a map showing what they propose:

2) Which park – Disneyland or California Advventure?

3) When would they do this?

4) Will it be similar to Walt Disney World’s Pandora or will it have different attractions based on the sequels?

Leave us a note in comments with your thoughts about all of this.

It’s possible Disney will release more details on the project this August at “D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Expo” in Anaheim. Until then, all we can do is speculate.
